TOTO THP5072 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the TOTO THP5072 aerator and does it come with the key to install it?
The THP5072 is a TOTO replacement aerator rated at 1.2 GPM with a coin-slot (vandal-resistant) face, and it ships with the key needed to remove and reinstall it. Coin-slot aerators can't be gripped by hand or pliers without marring the spout, so the key is the part people lose and then can't service the faucet. Ordering the THP5072 gets you both pieces.
2) Will the TOTO THP5072 reduce my faucet flow to 1.2 GPM?
Yes. The THP5072 aerator meters the outlet at 1.2 GPM, so a faucet that currently runs a higher-flow aerator drops to 1.2 GPM once this one is fitted. That's the common move in commercial restrooms and multi-family units where a lower flow rate is required at the lavatory. It does not change anything upstream, the valve and supply stay as they are.
3) I have several TOTO lavatory faucets in the building, can I standardize them all on the THP5072 aerator?
The THP5072 is a TOTO factory replacement aerator, so it belongs on TOTO faucets specified to take it. Standardizing a fleet on one aerator part number is how facilities keep one spare on the shelf instead of five, and the coin-slot design means only staff with the key can remove them, which cuts tampering in public restrooms. Match the part number against the faucet model you're servicing before buying in quantity.
4) Do I need a special tool or wrench to change out a coin-slot aerator?
No separate tool purchase, the key comes with the THP5072. A coin-slot aerator has a slotted face rather than external flats, so a standard aerator wrench or channel locks won't turn it. The supplied key seats in the slot and backs the housing out of the spout. Keep it, it's the only thing that removes the aerator again for cleaning or descaling.
5) My TOTO faucet is running weak, is replacing the aerator the fix?
Often yes on a lavatory faucet. Debris and scale collect in the aerator screen first, and a 1.2 GPM cartridge like the THP5072 has a fine enough screen that it shows the problem before anything else does. Swapping in a fresh THP5072 rules the aerator out in a couple of minutes; if flow is still weak afterward, the restriction is upstream at the supply stop or the cartridge.
