1) Can the Accentra 1810 exit device be used on a fire rated door?
Yes. The 1810 is a fire rated surface vertical rod device and carries both UL and ULC listings, so it suits fire rated door assemblies in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouse and government buildings. Because it is fire rated, there is no dogging feature to hold the latches retracted.
2) What door thickness does the Accentra 1810 vertical rod exit device fit?
It covers 1-3/4 inch through 4-1/2 inch doors, with 1-3/4 inch as the standard. That upper range is unusual and makes it workable on thick lead-lined, acoustic or insulated commercial doors, not just the standard 1-3/4 inch commercial leaf.
3) Will a surface vertical rod device like the Accentra 1810 work on a pair of doors with no center mullion?
That is what a surface vertical rod device is for. The 1810 latches at the head and at the sill rather than into a strike on the jamb, so a pair of doors can be secured without a center mullion. If you have a single door in a frame with a jamb strike, a rim device is the simpler choice; if you have a pair and want to keep a removable mullion, a rim device plus mullion is the alternative.
4) Does the Accentra 1810 fit a narrow stile aluminum storefront door?
Yes, the 1810 is a narrow stile device, which is what aluminum storefront and glass front doors need. A wide stile device will not fit those stiles.
5) Does the Accentra 1810 come with outside trim or a lever?
No. The 1810 is an exit only device, so there is no outside trim, lever or pull in the box and no way to enter from outside with it alone. Accentra/Yale exit device trim is ordered separately and has to be specified with the device.
6) What cylinder does the Accentra 1810 take if I add keyed trim?
The 1810 is built around a small format interchangeable core cylinder, so keyed trim used with it should be ordered for an SFIC core in your existing keyway rather than a standard mortise or rim cylinder.
7) I am standardizing exit devices across a building. Can I use the 1810 on both fire rated and non-rated openings?
You can. The 1810 is fire rated and UL/ULC listed, so it is acceptable on fire door assemblies, and nothing stops the same device going on non-rated openings for a consistent look across the property. The tradeoff is that a fire rated device has no dogging, so on high traffic non-rated doors you lose the ability to hold the latches retracted during business hours.
8) What kind of latch does the Accentra 1810 use at the top of the door?
A Pullman latchbolt, driven by the vertical rods. Pullman latches pivot out of the way on closing and reseat into the strike, which is what lets the device work top and bottom without a jamb strike.
