1) Will the Accentra 6160ED work on a hollow metal door, or is it wood only?
Wood doors only. The 6160ED is a concealed vertical rod device built specifically for wood door construction, and the rods and latches ride inside the door core, so it needs the door routed for that internal prep. On a hollow metal opening you want a device made for metal doors instead, not this one.
2) What is the minimum stile width for the 6160ED exit device?
It's a wide stile device, and standard application on a wood door calls for a minimum 4-1/2 inch stile. If your door has a narrower lock stile, such as an aluminum storefront, this pushpad won't land on it and you need a narrow stile device.
3) Can I use the Accentra 6160ED on a fire rated door?
No. The 6160ED is a non fire rated device, so it can't go on a labeled fire door assembly. It is UL/cUL listed as panic hardware for egress on non rated openings. For a labeled opening you need a fire exit hardware version, which also drops the hex dogging since fire devices can't be dogged.
4) My doors are 8 feet tall. Do I order a different 6160ED?
Yes, you pick the door height when ordering. The 6160ED 36 inch device comes configured for 7 foot, 8 foot, and 9 foot doors, which sets the length of the concealed rods. The 36 inch figure is the pushpad device length for a standard 3 foot wide door, not the door height, so those are two separate decisions.
5) Does the 6160ED lock from the outside, or do I need to buy trim separately?
As supplied it's exit only, meaning the pushpad releases the door from the inside and there's no outside operation built in.
