ACSI K-109 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the ACSI K-109 switch kit work on a Yale 7000 Series exit device?
Yes. The K-109 is the Series K switch kit built for Yale 7000 and Corbin Russwin ED4000 and ED5000 exit devices. If your device is a different family, you need a different K kit; ACSI builds them per device series, so a Von Duprin 98/99 takes the K-100, a Sargent 80 takes the K-103, a Falcon 24/25 takes the K-129.
2) What does the ACSI K-109 request to exit kit actually do on the door?
It puts an SPDT switch inside the exit device that trips the moment the push bar is depressed. That signal is what you use to release a magnetic lock for free egress, shunt or trigger a door alarm, or tell a control console someone is going out. It monitors push bar use, not latch bolt position, so it tells you the bar was pushed rather than whether the door relatched.
3) Do I have to buy a new exit device to add request to exit, or can I retrofit the one already on the door?
Retrofit. Series K kits are field installed into the exit device you already have, so a Yale 7000 or Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000 bar already hung on the opening can be converted without replacing the device. The kit ships with the switch assembly, long wire leads, and installation instructions.
4) Can I use the K-109 switch kit on a fire rated door?
No. The K-109 carries no fire rating, so it should not be specified on a fire rated opening. It is also not an ADA compliant component. For a fire door assembly, keep to the device manufacturer's listed monitoring option.
5) I am standardizing request to exit across a building with mixed exit device brands. Can I use the K-109 everywhere?
Only on the Yale 7000 and Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000 openings. The Series K line covers the rest brand by brand, so a mixed building gets a mixed order: K-101 for Von Duprin 55, K-102 for Von Duprin 88, K-104 for Sargent 9600/9700/9800/9900, K-105 for Sargent 9300/9400/9500, K-106 for Adams Rite 8000/3000, K-107 for Corbin Russwin 8000 and Yale 2100, K-108 for Jackson 1085/1095, K-124 for Precision 2000, K-125 for Dorma 9000, K-131 for Falcon 1690/1790. The switch behavior is the same across them, so your head end wiring stays consistent even though the kit numbers differ.
6) What voltage and current can the K-109 exit device switch handle?
The switch is rated 125 VAC and 30 VDC. That covers the usual 12 and 24 VDC access control inputs and mag lock circuits without a relay in between.
7) Is the K-109 a latch bolt monitor or a push bar switch?
Push bar. The K-109 signals when the bar is depressed. If you need to know the latch bolt itself is thrown, that is a different kit entirely, ACSI's latch bolt monitor kits are the K-123 and K-127, and both are for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices, not the Yale or Corbin Russwin families.
8) I need a double pole switch for two separate circuits. Does the K-109 do that?
No, the K-109 is single pole double throw, one set of contacts. ACSI's DPDT kits exist but only for certain device families: K-200 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, K-203 for Sargent 80, and K-226 for Hager 4500/4600, PDQ 6200 and Stanley Commercial QED100/200/300. On a Yale 7000 or Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000, the SPDT K-109 is the kit, and a second circuit gets driven off a relay.
9) Is the ACSI K-109 suitable for a commercial opening or is it a light duty residential part?
Commercial. It is a commercial grade electronic access control component meant to go into commercial exit hardware, which is what a Yale 7000 or Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000 device is.
