1) What is the difference between a latch bolt monitor switch and a request-to-exit switch on an exit device?
They watch two different things. A request-to-exit kit signals when the push bar is depressed, which is what you use to shunt an alarm or drop a mag lock for free egress. A latch bolt monitor, which is what the ACSI K-123 is, reports the latch itself, so the head end knows whether the door actually secured rather than just that somebody pushed the bar. Access control integrators often run both on the same opening. ACSI's request-to-exit version for the same Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices is the K-100.
2) Can I add latch monitoring to existing Von Duprin exit devices without replacing the devices?
That is exactly what the K-123 is for.
