ACSI K-100 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the ACSI K-100 switch kit fit my Von Duprin 99 exit device?
Yes. The K-100 is built for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 Series exit devices, and the description also lists the Von Duprin 22 Series among what it works with. It is a field-installed kit, so it goes into a device already hung on the door rather than requiring a factory-ordered device. If your device is a Von Duprin 55 or 88, you need a different kit in the same family: the K-101 covers the 55 Series and the K-102 covers the 88 Series.
2) What does a request to exit switch kit in an exit device actually do?
It senses the push bar. The ACSI Series K kit puts a switch inside the exit device so that when someone pushes the bar, the switch changes state and tells the rest of the system a person is leaving. That signal is used four ways: instant release of a magnetic lock so egress is free, activating a door alarm, signaling a control console, or shunting a door alarm so the door can be opened without setting it off. Without it, a mag-locked door has no hardware-level egress signal at the device itself.
3) Is the K-100 switch a single pole or double pole switch, and what voltage can it handle?
Single pole double throw (SPDT), rated 125 VAC and 30 VDC. One SPDT switch gives you one set of common, normally open and normally closed contacts, which is enough to drive a single function, such as dropping a mag lock or shunting an alarm. If you need to run two independent circuits off the same push bar, for instance releasing a mag lock and reporting to an access control panel on separate contacts, order the ACSI K-200 instead. It is the DPDT version for the same Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices.
4) Do I need a request to exit kit or a latch bolt monitor for my Von Duprin device?
They answer different questions. A request to exit kit like the ACSI K-100 tells you the push bar was pressed, which is what you need to release a mag lock or shunt an alarm for someone walking out. A latch bolt monitor tells you the bolt is actually projected and the door is secured, which is what a console needs to confirm the opening is locked. For Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices the latch bolt monitor is the ACSI K-123. Openings that need both a free-egress signal and a secured-status report take both switches.
5) Can I add a request to exit switch to exit devices already installed in my building, or do I have to replace the devices?
You keep the devices. ACSI Series K switch kits are field installed into exit devices, so a property manager or integrator retrofits an existing Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 or 99 rather than buying new electrified hardware. For a mixed building, the same Series K family covers other makes, so you can standardize on one switch type across the site: K-103 and K-104 for Sargent, K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, K-107 for Corbin Russwin 8000 and Yale 2100, K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25, and K-125 for Dorma 9000.
6) Will the ACSI K-100 retract the latch electrically or unlock the door?
No, and this is the most common mix-up on these kits. The K-100 is a monitoring switch only, a part or component that reports the push bar being pressed. It does not move the latch and it does not lock or unlock anything on its own. Electric latch retraction on a Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 or 99 is a separate ACSI product, the 1500K-VD ELR kit, and if you fit that kit and also want bolt status reporting, the matching monitor is the ACSI K-127.
7) What comes in the ACSI K-100 kit, and do I need to order anything else to wire it?
The kit is a SPDT switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. The long leads are the point, they are meant to run from the device out to the hinge edge and the transfer, so you are not splicing in short pigtails inside the rail. What the kit does not include is the path to the frame: a door cord or electric hinge to get the leads across the opening, and whatever power supply or panel the switch is reporting to. Plan those separately.
8) Can I use the ACSI K-100 switch kit on a fire rated exit device opening?
The K-100 itself carries no fire rating, so it should not be treated as a fire rated component in your submittal. It is a commercial-duty electronic accessory for exit devices. On a rated opening, the rating lives with the door, frame and the exit device assembly, so the specifying authority on the job has to sign off on adding a field-installed switch to that assembly before you cut it in.
