1) Which exit devices does the ACSI K-101 request to exit switch kit fit?
The ACSI K-101 switch kit is built for Von Duprin 55 Series exit devices only. It is a field installed kit, so the switch goes into the device itself rather than mounting on the frame. If your device is a different family, ACSI makes a matching kit: K-100 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, K-102 for Von Duprin 88, K-103 for Sargent 80, K-104 for Sargent 9600/9700/9800/9900, and K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25.
2) What kind of switch comes in the ACSI K-101 kit, and can I use it to drop a mag lock?
The kit supplies an SPDT (single pole double throw) switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. Because SPDT gives you both a normally open and a normally closed contact off one common, it will release a magnetic lock for free egress when the push bar is depressed, and it can just as easily trigger or shunt a door alarm or signal a control console.
3) Does the ACSI K-101 monitor the latch bolt or the push bar?
The push bar. The K-101 signals when the push bar of the Von Duprin 55 Series device is depressed, which is a request to exit, not a confirmation that the door is secured. For latch bolt position monitoring on Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 devices, ACSI offers the K-123 latch bolt monitor switch kit instead.
4) Can I retrofit request to exit into a Von Duprin 55 I already have installed, or do I need a new electrified device?
You can retrofit. The ACSI Series K kits are field installed into exit devices already hanging, so an existing Von Duprin 55 Series push bar takes the K-101 switch assembly without replacing the device. Wire leads are run long so you can get out to the frame transfer and back to the access control panel.
5) I need two separate circuits off one push bar. Is the K-101 enough?
No. The K-101 is a single SPDT switch, which gives you one set of transfer contacts. If you need two independent circuits switched at once, you want a DPDT kit. ACSI builds those for other device families: K-200 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, K-203 for Sargent 80, and K-226 for Hager 4500/4600, PDQ 6200 and Stanley Commercial QED100/200/300.
6) Is the ACSI K-101 switch kit fire rated for use on a fire door assembly?
The K-101 request to exit switch kit is not fire rated. It's a commercial-grade electronic component that installs into an existing exit device, so on a labeled opening the fire rating comes from the door, frame and the exit device itself. Specify accordingly on fire-rated openings.
7) What's in the ACSI K-101 box, and what else do I need to finish the job?
You get the SPDT switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. Everything else is job-side: power transfer through the door or frame, the cable run back to the panel or mag lock power supply, and the mag lock or alarm the switch is controlling. The kit itself supplies no power and no transfer hardware.
