ACSI K-102 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the ACSI K-102 switch kit work on a Von Duprin 98 or 99 exit device?
No. The K-102 is built specifically for the Von Duprin 88 Series. For Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 or 99 devices, ACSI makes the K-100 (SPDT) or the K-200 if you need a DPDT switch. For Von Duprin 55 Series, the K-101 is the right kit. Ordering by device series matters here, because each K kit is cut and drilled for one device chassis.
2) Can I add request to exit to an existing Von Duprin 88 exit device without replacing the device?
That's exactly what the K-102 is for. It's a field install kit, meaning the switch assembly mounts inside an exit device already hanging on the door. You keep the 88 Series device and add the RX signal, rather than buying a factory electrified device.
3) Will the K-102 release a magnetic lock when someone pushes the exit device bar?
Yes. When the push bar on the Von Duprin 88 device is depressed, the switch transfers and gives instant release of a magnetic lock for free egress. The same signal can be used to shunt or trigger a door alarm, or to report the push to a control console, depending on which side of the SPDT contact you wire to.
4) Does the K-102 monitor the latch bolt, or only the push bar?
Only the push bar. The K-102 is a request to exit switch, so it signals when the bar is depressed. If you need to know the latch is actually thrown and the door secure, that's a latch bolt monitor, and ACSI's are the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 for use with the 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same devices.
5) What kind of switch is in the ACSI K-102 request to exit kit?
A SPDT (single pole double throw) switch assembly, supplied with long wire leads so you can run them out to the hinge side transfer without splicing at the device. If your application needs two separate circuits switched, ACSI's DPDT kits are the K-200, K-203 and K-226, but those are for other device families, not the Von Duprin 88.
6) Is the ACSI K-102 kit approved for a fire rated exit device?
No. The K-102 switch kit carries no fire rating, so treat it as a non fire rated accessory. On a labeled fire door assembly, any field modification to the exit device needs to keep the device's own label valid, so plan that opening accordingly.
7) Do I need an installer or electrician to fit the ACSI K-102, and does it come with instructions?
The kit ships with the switch assembly, long wire leads and installation instructions, so a locksmith or door hardware tech can fit it in the field. You'll still need the low voltage path off the door yourself, typically an electric hinge or door loop, plus the power supply and whatever the switch is controlling. None of that is part of the kit.
8) I'm standardizing RX switches across a building with mixed exit device brands. Does ACSI cover Sargent, Falcon and Precision too?
Yes, the Series K kits run across most major device lines, so you can keep one switch type and one wiring approach building wide. Sargent 80 uses the K-103, Sargent 9600/9700/9800/9900 the K-104, Sargent 9300/9400/9500 the K-105, Falcon 24/25 the K-129, Falcon 1690/1790 the K-131, Precision 2000 the K-124, Adams Rite 8000/3000 the K-106, Dorma 9000 the K-125, and Corbin Russwin ED4000/ED5000 with Yale 7000 the K-109. The K-102 covers the Von Duprin 88 openings in that mix.
9) Is the K-102 rated for commercial openings or is it a residential part?
Commercial. It's an electronic access control component for exit devices on commercial openings, the kind of application you see in schools, healthcare, and multi-family egress stairwells where mag locks and door alarms are tied to the panic hardware.
