ACSI K-125 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does an ACSI K-125 request to exit switch kit actually do on the door?
It puts a switch inside the exit device so that pushing the push bar sends a signal the instant someone starts to leave. Integrators use that signal to drop a magnetic lock for free egress, trigger or shunt a door alarm, or report the exit to a control console. The switch reports the push bar, not the latch, so it tells you someone requested egress rather than confirming the latch retracted.
2) Is the K-125 a single pole double throw switch, and what can I switch through it?
Single pole double throw, with contacts rated 4A at 250VAC. The double throw gives you a normally open and a normally closed leg off one common, so the same kit can either make a circuit (fire an alarm or a console input) or break one (drop a mag lock) depending which leg you land on. If you need two independent circuits switched at once, a SPDT kit will not do it; ACSI's DPDT versions in this family are the K-200, K-203 and K-226, which cover Von Duprin, Sargent 80 and Hager/PDQ/Stanley devices.
3) Can I add request to exit to an existing Dorma 9000 device, or do I have to buy a new exit device?
No new device needed. ACSI Series K kits are field installed into the exit device you already have hanging, so a Dorma 9000 that went in without RX can be converted in place. The kit ships as a switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions, so the work is opening the push bar chassis, mounting the switch, and running the leads out to your access control. For a property manager standardizing a building, that means you retrofit the openings that need monitoring rather than replacing hardware door by door.
4) Does the K-125 kit include the transfer hinge or power transfer to get wires off the door?
The kit covers the switch assembly, its long wire leads and instructions, and nothing beyond that. Getting the leads from a swinging door into the frame is a separate item on your order, so plan on an electric hinge, a door loop or a concealed power transfer depending on the opening. Same goes for the power supply and whatever the switch is controlling, such as a mag lock or alarm panel.
5) Is the ACSI K-125 request to exit kit fire rated or ADA compliant?
It is neither fire rated nor ADA compliant as a component, and that is normal for a switch kit: the ratings on the opening come from the exit device and the door assembly, not from an add-on switch. If you are working a fire rated opening, verify the Dorma 9000 device and door assembly carry the rating you need and follow the device manufacturer's instructions when you open the chassis.
6) I need to know the latch is actually thrown, not just that someone pushed the bar. Is the K-125 the right kit?
No. The K-125 reports push bar activation, which is a request to exit signal, not latch position. For latch bolt monitoring ACSI makes dedicated kits: the K-123 latch bolt monitor switch kit for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 latch bolt monitor for the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same Von Duprin devices. If your access control system needs a door secure confirmation, that is the family to look at.
7) I have a mix of Dorma and Von Duprin exit devices in one building. Can I order one switch kit for all of them?
You cannot. The Series K kits are device specific because the switch has to mount inside a particular chassis, so a building with mixed hardware needs a matched kit per device family: K-125 for the Dorma 9000, K-100 or K-200 for Von Duprin 33A/35A/98/99, K-101 for Von Duprin 55, K-102 for Von Duprin 88. Walk the openings and count devices by series before you place the order, or you will be short kits on half the doors.
8) Is the K-125 switch kit rated for commercial buildings or is it a light duty part?
Commercial grade, and it is an electronic access control component rather than mechanical hardware. It belongs on the same kind of opening a Dorma 9000 electric exit device serves: schools, healthcare, offices and multifamily common doors where egress has to be monitored or a mag lock has to release on push.
9) Is the ACSI K-125 a 12 volt device?
The K-125 is listed at 12 volt, and its contacts carry up to 4A at 250VAC. In practice the switch is a dry set of contacts you pass your own circuit through, so it works with a 12VDC mag lock or alarm input as listed and has headroom well above typical low voltage access control loads. Size the circuit to the load you are actually switching.
