ACSI K-103 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does an ACSI Series K request to exit switch kit actually do on the door?
It puts an SPDT monitor switch inside the exit device so that pressing the push bar sends a signal. That signal can drop a magnetic lock instantly for free egress, shunt or trigger a door alarm, or tell a control console that someone has pushed the bar. It is the piece that makes a mag-locked or alarmed opening behave legally on the egress side without anyone touching a separate button.
2) I have Arrow and Dorex exit devices too, can I use the same ACSI K-103 request to exit kit on those?
The K-103 covers more than Sargent. It is listed for use with Sargent 80, Arrow 1000, 3000 and 4000, and Dorex 9500 devices. That makes it one kit number to stock if your building runs a mix of those device families. Anything outside that list takes a different ACSI Series K kit.
3) Do I need a single pole or double pole switch kit for a Sargent 80 exit device?
The K-103 gives you a single SPDT (single pole, double throw) switch, which is enough when the push bar signal drives one thing, a mag lock release or one alarm shunt. If you need two independent circuits switched off the same push bar, ACSI builds the K-203 for Sargent 80 Series as the DPDT version. Decide that from your panel wiring before you order.
4) My exit devices are Von Duprin, not Sargent. Which ACSI request to exit kit do I need?
Not the K-103. For Von Duprin, ACSI splits it by device family: the K-100 covers 33A, 35A, 98 and 99 (with the K-200 as the DPDT version), the K-101 covers the 55 Series, and the K-102 covers the 88 Series. Other common ones are the K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25, the K-107 for Corbin Russwin 8000 and Yale 2100, and the K-125 for Dorma 9000. Pick by the device series stamped on the bar.
5) Is the ACSI K-103 switch rated for the voltage on my mag lock and alarm circuit?
The switch is rated 250VAC, so it covers standard low voltage access control circuits as well as line-level AC switching. Wire it to your own circuit's requirements and stay at or under that rating.
6) Can I use the ACSI K-103 request to exit kit on a fire rated exit device?
No. The K-103 kit does not carry a fire rating. On a fire rated opening, any field modification to the exit device has to be one the device manufacturer permits, so verify that path with the device maker before cutting into the bar.
7) What is the mounting hole spacing on the ACSI K-103 switch kit?
The switch mounts on 1/2 inch hole centers. That spacing is what lets it land in the Sargent 80 Series push bar chassis, and it is worth checking against your device before drilling anything.
8) Does the ACSI K-103 come with wire and instructions or do I need to supply my own?
The kit includes the SPDT switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. The long leads are the point: you run them out of the device and through the door and hinge transfer to your controller without having to splice inside the bar. You still supply the door cord or electric hinge and the controller side.
9) Is the ACSI K-103 a request to exit switch or a latch bolt monitor?
Request to exit. The K-103 signals when the push bar is depressed, not when the latch bolt is thrown or the door is secure. If you need to prove the door actually latched, that is a latch bolt monitor kit, which ACSI builds separately (the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99). Many jobs spec both on the same leaf.
10) Is the ACSI K-103 switch kit suitable for a commercial building or is it a residential part?
Commercial. It is an electronic access control component for institutional and commercial openings, the kind of thing that goes into schools, healthcare, and multi-family common doors where mag locks or alarmed exits are on the plan. It is not a residential product.
