1) Will the ACSI K-104 switch kit fit my Sargent 9800 exit device?
Yes. The K-104 request-to-exit switch kit is built for Sargent 9600, 9700, 9800 and 9900 series exit devices. It is a field-installed kit, so it goes into a device already hung on the door rather than requiring a factory-ordered electrified device.
2) I have a Sargent 9400 exit device, not a 9800. Is the K-104 the right kit?
No. The K-104 covers the Sargent 9600, 9700, 9800 and 9900 devices. For Sargent 9300, 9400 and 9500 devices the correct ACSI kit is the K-105. For Sargent 80 Series use the K-103, or the K-203 if you need a DPDT switch.
3) What kind of switch is in the ACSI K-104 kit, and what can I wire it to?
The kit uses a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch assembly with long wire leads, so you get both a normally open and a normally closed contact off one switch. Typical uses: instant release of a magnetic lock for free egress, triggering a door alarm, shunting a door alarm so egress does not cause a nuisance trip, and signaling a control console when the push bar is depressed. If your panel needs two independent circuits, you want a DPDT kit instead, and ACSI builds those only for certain devices (K-200 for Von Duprin 33A/35A/98/99, K-203 for Sargent 80 Series, K-226 for Hager 4500/4600, PDQ 6200 and Stanley QED100/200/300).
4) Is the ACSI K-104 fire rated, and can I use it on a labeled door?
The K-104 switch kit itself carries no fire rating. Because it is a field-installed modification to the exit device, adding it to a fire-labeled opening is governed by the exit device manufacturer's label and your local AHJ, not by the kit. On a labeled door, confirm the modification with the device maker before you drill or cut.
5) I need to release a maglock the instant someone pushes the bar. Will this kit do that, or do I need a separate request-to-exit sensor?
A push-bar switch like the K-104 releases on physical contact with the bar, which is what most codes and inspectors want for a maglock: the release happens as the occupant touches the device, not when a motion sensor decides someone is approaching. Wired into the mag lock power, it gives instant release for free egress. Many jobs still use a motion-type REX above the door as a second means of release, but the bar switch is the one tied directly to the exit device.
6) I'm standardizing REX switches across a building with mixed exit device brands. Does ACSI cover the other devices too?
Yes, the Series K kits are model-specific, so you order one per device family and keep the same switch behavior building-wide. 7) Will the K-104 tell me whether the latch is actually secured?
No. The K-104 signals only that the push bar has been depressed, so it reports egress, not latch position. For latch status you need a latch bolt monitor: ACSI offers the K-123 latch bolt monitor kit for Von Duprin 33A/35A/98/99, and the K-127 latch bolt monitor for the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same Von Duprin devices.
8) Does the K-104 kit come with instructions, or do I need a separate template?
Installation instructions are included with the kit along with the switch assembly and its wire leads. It is intended as a field retrofit by a locksmith or integrator inside the exit device housing.
