1) Will the ACSI K-203 switch kit fit a Sargent 80 Series exit device?
Yes. The K-203 is built specifically for Sargent 80 Series exit devices, in the DPDT configuration. It is a field-installed kit, so it goes into an existing device already hung on the door rather than requiring you to buy a new exit device. If your device is a different family, ACSI builds a matched kit for it instead: the K-104 covers Sargent 9600, 9700, 9800 and 9900, and the K-105 covers Sargent 9300, 9400 and 9500. 2) What does a request to exit switch kit in an exit device actually do?
It senses the push bar. When someone depresses the bar on the Sargent 80 Series device, the switch in the K-203 kit closes and sends a signal your access control system can act on. Four common uses: instant release of a magnetic lock so the person walks out without pulling on a locked door, activating a door alarm, signalling a control console that the bar was pushed, and shunting a door alarm so authorized egress does not trip it. It is the piece that lets a maglock opening stay code-legal for free egress.
3) What is the difference between the ACSI K-203 and the K-103 for Sargent 80 Series devices?
Both go into a Sargent 80 Series device; the difference is the switch. The K-203 is the DPDT version, and the K-103 is the standard Sargent 80 Series kit. 4) Can I use the ACSI K-203 kit on a fire rated exit device?
No. The K-203 kit is not fire rated. On a labeled fire door opening, adding an unlisted component to a listed exit device can void the device label, so that is not the kit for that door. Use it on non-rated openings where you are switching a maglock, an alarm shunt, or a console signal off the push bar.
5) Do I need an electrician or can a locksmith install the ACSI K-203 in the field?
