ACSI K-105 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the ACSI K-105 switch kit fit a Sargent 9300 or 9500 series exit device?
Yes. The K-105 is the Series K request-to-exit switch kit built specifically for Sargent 9300, 9400 and 9500 series devices. It is a field-installed kit, so the switch assembly mounts inside the exit device you already have on the door rather than requiring a new device. If your Sargent device is from a different family, the K-105 is the wrong number: the 9600, 9700, 9800 and 9900 devices take the K-104, and the Sargent 80 Series takes the K-103.
2) What kind of switch is in the ACSI K-105 request to exit kit, and how does it wire in?
The K-105 kit contains an SPDT (single pole double throw) switch assembly with long wire leads and installation instructions. SPDT gives you both a normally open and a normally closed contact off one common, so the same switch can either break a circuit or make one depending on how you land the leads. The long leads are there so you can run out of the device and through the door and hinge transfer without splicing at the push bar.
3) I need to release a maglock for free egress from a Sargent 9400 exit device. Is a switch kit the right way to do it?
That is exactly what the K-105 is for. Depressing the push bar throws the switch, which gives instant release of magnetic locks for free egress. It can also be used to activate a door alarm, shunt a door alarm so egress does not trip it, or signal a control console that the bar has been pushed. One SPDT switch covers one of those functions at a time; if you need two independent circuits from one push, you need a DPDT kit, and ACSI builds those for other device families (the K-200 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-203 for the Sargent 80 Series).
4) Can I add request to exit signalling to an existing exit device without replacing the device?
Yes, and that is the whole point of the ACSI Series K kits. The switch assembly is field installed into the exit device already hanging on the door, so you keep the existing Sargent hardware and add the RX signal to it. Pick the kit by device family: K-105 covers Sargent 9300, 9400 and 9500. ACSI builds the same kit for other brands, including the K-100 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, the K-106 for Adams Rite 8000 and 3000, the K-129 for Falcon 24 and 25, and the K-125 for Dorma 9000.
5) Does the ACSI K-105 monitor whether the latch is actually retracted, or just that the bar was pushed?
Push bar only. The K-105 signals when the push bar of the exit device is depressed, which is a request-to-exit input, not a latch position. If you need to know the bolt itself is out of the strike, that is a latch bolt monitor, and ACSI builds those as separate kits, the K-123 for Von Duprin 33A, 35A, 98 and 99, and the K-127 for the ACSI 1500K-VD ELR kit on those same Von Duprin devices. Security integrators tying into an access control panel commonly want both signals, so specify them separately.
6) Is the ACSI K-105 switch kit fire rated for use on a fire door assembly?
No fire rating is carried on the K-105 switch kit. It is a commercial-grade electrified component that installs into an exit device, and the fire rating that governs the opening comes from the exit device and door assembly themselves. If your opening is a fire door, verify the rating on the Sargent device and its labelling rather than on the switch kit.
7) How many switch kits do I order to standardize request to exit across a building with mixed exit device brands?
One kit per door leaf, and the part number changes with the device on each leaf, not with the building. The Series K line is organized brand by brand, so a facility running Sargent 9300, 9400 and 9500 devices takes the K-105 on those openings, while Sargent 9600 through 9900 openings take the K-104 and Sargent 80 Series openings take the K-103. Other families in the same line cover Yale 7000 and Corbin Russwin ED4000 and ED5000 (K-109), Precision 2000 (K-124), and Hager 4500 and 4600 with PDQ 6200 and Stanley Commercial QED100, 200 and 300 (K-126). Walk the openings and count by device family before ordering.
8) Does the ACSI K-105 kit come with everything needed, or do I have to buy the switch separately?
The kit is complete for the switch side of the job: an SPDT switch assembly, long wire leads, and installation instructions. What it does not include is anything on the door or frame side of the run, so budget separately for a door cord or hinge power transfer to get the leads out of the leaf, and for whatever the switch is driving, a maglock power supply, an alarm, or the access control input.
9) Is the ACSI K-105 request to exit switch kit only one model, or are there options to specify?
There is a single configuration, K-105. No finish, handing or voltage choice to make on the order, since the switch mounts inside the exit device chassis and never shows. The only decision is confirming the device on the door is a Sargent 9300, 9400 or 9500 before you order.
