Adams Rite 23-0065-01-121-IB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Adams Rite 23-0065-01-121-IB escutcheon assembly actually fit?
It's the exterior escutcheon assembly for the Adams Rite 4189 flush lockset, and that is the only lockset it is built for. If the lockset on your door is a different Adams Rite model, this trim won't be the correct part. Finish is 121 Dark Bronze Anodized.
2) Is this a whole lockset or just the outside trim?
Just the outside trim. The 23-0065-01-121-IB is the exterior escutcheon assembly, the plate and housing that covers the exterior-facing components of the 4189 flush lockset. The lock case, latching mechanism and interior side are not part of it, so order it only when the lockset itself is still serviceable and you are replacing damaged or mismatched exterior trim.
3) Will the dark bronze match the other Adams Rite 4189 doors in my building?
The 121 Dark Bronze Anodized finish is the factory finish used on 4189 flush lockset hardware, so it is the right choice when you are keeping a run of openings consistent. Dark bronze anodized does weather over years of exterior exposure, so a brand new plate next to a twenty year old one can read slightly different in daylight even though the finish code is identical.
4) Is this a genuine Adams Rite part or an aftermarket copy?
Genuine Adams Rite. Model number is 23-0065-01-121-IB, catalogued as an Adams Rite replacement part, so the screw pattern, cutouts and finish follow the original 4189 specification rather than an approximate aftermarket reproduction.
5) My 4189 lockset is worn out. Should I buy this trim or replace the lockset?
Buy the trim only when the lock mechanism still works and the problem is the exterior plate, damaged, corroded, or a finish that no longer matches. The 23-0065-01-121-IB restores the exterior trim without replacing the whole 4189 unit. If the latching or the cylinder side is failing, the escutcheon won't fix it and you need lockset parts instead.
6) Is the Adams Rite 23-0065 escutcheon rated for commercial door use?
It is a commercial part, built to Adams Rite commercial standards for the 4189 flush lockset, which is storefront and commercial entry hardware. Typical spots are office buildings, retail storefronts, schools, healthcare and municipal facilities keeping existing Adams Rite openings in service.
7) Do I need to pull the door or the lock case to swap this escutcheon?
The escutcheon is exterior trim on the 4189 flush lockset, so the work is on the outside face of the door rather than a full lockset removal. Because the assembly houses the exterior components, plan on the outside hardware coming off together and going back on as a unit. The lock case stays in the door.
