1) Does the Adams Rite 4000 Series trim strike work with an MS hookbolt lock?
There is a hookbolt version, listed for all MS-050 hookbolt locks. Hookbolt locks are what you use where a straight bolt cannot do the work, sliding doors and pairs of aluminum doors with no center mullion, because the bolt rotates out and hooks the keeper instead of just projecting into it. The hook enters the jamb differently than a straight bolt, so it needs the hookbolt strike rather than either of the straight bolt versions. It comes in all three anodized finishes and both plate shapes.
2) Can I use this MS deadlock strike with an Adams Rite deadlatch?
No. The 4000 Series trim strike is cut for MS deadlocks only: standard MS locks with a 1-3/8 inch bolt throw, the 1850A-020 with a 3/4 inch throw, and MS-050 hookbolt locks. A deadlatch throws a beveled spring latch that has to ride across the strike lip and drop in, which is a different strike geometry entirely. Order the strike listed for the deadlatch you are running rather than an MS deadlock strike.
3) Is the Adams Rite 4000 Series MS trim strike the working strike or just a cover plate?
It is the trim that finishes the strike cutout in the jamb, in aluminum, and it dresses and squares up the pocket the deadbolt enters. It is not the lock, and it is not sold with one. The MS deadlock is a separate order, and the strike is chosen to suit that lock's bolt: 1-3/8 inch throw standard MS, 3/4 inch throw 1850A-020, or MS-050 hookbolt. If you have a raw or chewed up strike cutout in an aluminum jamb and the lock itself is fine, this is the part that cleans it up.
4) Does the Adams Rite 4000 Series strike surface mount, or does it have to be mortised into the frame?
Either way. The 4000 Series MS deadlock trim strike installs surface mounted or mortised flush, into hollow metal or wood. Surface mount is the quicker route on a frame that is already cut and where you are covering an existing opening; mortise flush sits level with the jamb face and is the cleaner look on new prep. The mounting method does not change which version you order, that is set by the lock's bolt throw.
5) What is the difference between the flat and radius trim plate on an Adams Rite MS strike, and which corners should I order?
Shape follows the jamb face. The flat plate lies on a flat jamb; the radius plate is formed to follow a jamb with a curved face, which is common on older storefront extrusions. Corners are square or round, and that choice is cosmetic, so match it to the cutout you already have and the rest of the hardware on the opening. Both shapes and both corner treatments are offered against every deadlock fit and every finish, so the shape decision never limits which lock you can use it with.
