1) Will the Adams Rite 4550 lever trim work on my MS+1890 or 2190 interconnected deadlatch?
No. The 4550 MS Deadlock lever trim will not work on MS+1890 Deadlock/Deadlatch or 2190 Interconnected Deadlock/Deadlatch systems, and it will not work on a 7/8 inch backset lock. It's built for MS Deadlock systems in narrow stile aluminum doors. If your opening is one of those excluded locks, this is the wrong trim and you need trim matched to that specific device.
2) Is the Adams Rite 4550 lever handed, and how do I order right hand versus left hand?
Handing matters here. The 4550 is made in both hands and you specify it on the order: LH or LHR, or RH or RHR. Both hands exist across every finish and both door thickness ranges. Stand outside the door, on the key side: if the hinges are on your left it's left hand, on your right it's right hand. Reverse bevel (LHR/RHR) is the same door with the leaf swinging toward you.
3) How does a tenant tell whether the door is actually locked with the Adams Rite 4550?
The 4550 lever trim carries a visual status indicator driven directly off the lock bolt itself, not off the lever position. It reads LOCKED in red letters or OPEN in green on a white background. Because the bolt drives it, the display can't sit on OPEN while the bolt is thrown. That's the reason this trim gets specified on classroom and office doors where somebody has to confirm secure status at a glance from inside.
4) How much force does it take to retract an MS deadlock with the 4550 lever?
About 3 pounds of downward force on the 3 inch lever retracts the MS deadbolt. The lever is spring loaded and returns itself to horizontal after each use. For openings that need hands free operation, Adams Rite offers the 4591 paddle operator for ADA compliance instead of the lever.
