7400 SERIES ELECTRIC STRIKES FOR DEADLATCHES

Designed for use with Adams Rite deadlatches or cylindrical locksets with 1/2" [12.7 mm] to 5/8" [15.9 mm] latchbolt projection.
For use in aluminum, hollow metal, or wood applications.
Open electrically under 25 lbs [11.3 kg] of preload. Preload is pressure exerted on doors by air conditioning systems, warping or misaligned hardware which can disable common electric strikes.

FUNCTION

This non-handed strike features an ultra-compact design and adjustable stainless steel keepers with over 1,500 lbs [680.4 kg] of holding force in fail secure mode. The strike releases electrically with up to 25 lbs of door preload. Single solenoid operates on 12/16/24 VDC power. Remote electrical control of narrow stile aluminum doors equipped with an Adams Rite 4500, 4700 (discontinued), or 4900 Deadlatch or cylindrical lockset with 1/2" [12.7 mm] to 5/8" [15.9 mm] latchbolt projection. Electrical actuation unlocks the keeper, releasing the latchbolt so the door may be opened without operating the latch itself.

Adams Rite 7400A – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Adams Rite 7400A Series UltraLine Electric Strike used for?
The 7400A Series electric strike is designed for commercial door applications where remote release of the latch is required. It works with standard cylindrical locksets and panic hardware to provide fail-secure or fail-safe operation for access control systems.
2) Which door frames is this electric strike compatible with?
The 7400A is designed for hollow metal door frames with standard strike preparation. It requires a 1-1/8" x 4-7/8" cutout in the frame. Verify your frame preparation matches the manufacturer's template before installation.
3) Does this strike work with both left and right hand doors?
Yes, the 7400A Series electric strike is field-reversible for both left and right hand door applications. The keeper can be adjusted during installation to accommodate the door handing.
4) What finishes are available for the 7400A Series?
The 7400A Series is typically available in multiple finishes including satin chrome, dark bronze, and black. Check the specific product listing for available finish options as they may vary by model.
5) What voltage and power does this electric strike require?
The 7400A operates on 12VDC or 24VDC depending on the model. Current draw is typically low for efficient operation. Verify the specific voltage requirements for your model before connecting to your access control system.
6) Does this strike meet fire code requirements?
The Adams Rite 7400A Series is designed for use in fire-rated applications when properly installed. Verify local fire codes and AHJ requirements for your specific installation. Some applications may require fail-safe operation.
7) What components are included in the body kit?
The body kit typically includes the main strike body, keeper, mounting hardware, and installation template. Wiring and access control connections are separate. Check the complete parts list for your specific model number.
8) How difficult is installation of the 7400A electric strike?
Installation requires frame modification and electrical connections. Use the manufacturer's template for precise cutout dimensions. Professional installation is recommended for proper alignment and code compliance. Low voltage wiring must be run to the strike location.
9) How do you adjust the 7400A strike after installation?
The keeper position can be adjusted for proper latch alignment. Make small adjustments and test operation. Ensure the latch fully engages when the door closes and releases completely when energized. Lubricate pivot points as needed.
10) Are there other models in the Adams Rite UltraLine series?
Yes, Adams Rite offers multiple UltraLine models with different features and applications. Browse our Adams Rite selection to compare options and find the right strike for your project requirements.
11) What door and frame conditions affect strike performance?
Proper door alignment and gap consistency are critical. Sagging doors or warped frames can cause binding. The door must close completely for proper latch engagement. Address any door or frame issues before installing the electric strike.
12) What are the key measurements for the 7400A installation?
The standard cutout is 1-1/8" x 4-7/8" in the door frame. Verify your lockset backset and latch projection match the strike specifications. Use the manufacturer's template for exact dimensions and mounting hole locations.
