1) What reader does the Aiphone AC-PC-H26 proximity card work with?
The AC-PC-H26 credential is made to be read by the Aiphone AC-PROX-C proximity reader in the AC Series access control line. If your opening is running a different reader brand, match on the electrical basics first: this card is a passive 125kHz credential in 26-bit format. A reader that does not operate at 125kHz will not see it at all.
2) Will a 26-bit Aiphone clamshell prox card work on my existing 125kHz card reader?
Electrically, yes in most cases: the AC-PC-H26 is a passive 125kHz proximity card in 26-bit format, which is the common low-frequency prox standard. Two things still have to line up. Your reader has to be a 125kHz prox reader, not a 13.56MHz smart card reader, and your access control panel has to be set to accept 26-bit credentials. The facility (site) code and card number are printed on the credential, so you can read the numbers off the card and enroll them by hand rather than presenting each one at a reader.
3) Can I punch a slot in the Aiphone AC-PC-H26 clamshell card for a badge clip?
Yes. The clamshell body is ABS with a molded thickness of 1/16 inch, and clamshell cards are built to be slot-punched at the edge for a clip or lanyard without disturbing the antenna coil inside. What you cannot do with a clamshell is run it through a direct-to-card printer for photo ID. If you need a photo badge, you want a printable composite card instead of this one.
4) I manage an apartment building. Can I order more of these cards later and have them work with the ones my tenants already carry?
Yes, that is the point of a fixed-format credential. Every AC-PC-H26 is a 26-bit card at 125kHz read by the AC-PROX-C reader, so additional cards ordered later read on the same reader as the ones already issued. Each card has its own card number printed on it along with the site code, so you enroll or revoke individual cards in the access control software without touching anyone else's credential.
5) Is the Aiphone AC-PC-H26 a key fob or a flat card?
It is a flat card, not a fob. The AC-PC-H26 is a clamshell-style ABS card measuring 2-3/16 by 3-3/8 by 1/16 inches, meant to be carried in a wallet or clipped to a badge holder. If your users want something on a keyring, you need a fob credential in the same 125kHz 26-bit format rather than this card.
6) Does the AC-PC-H26 proximity card need a battery or any wiring?
No battery and no wiring. It is a passive 125kHz proximity credential, so the card draws its power from the reader's field when you present it. The only powered device in the arrangement is the reader itself, which is part of the Aiphone AC Series electronic access control equipment.
