Aiphone DA-1DS,2DS,4DS - Call Audio Entrance Station

The DA Series door station comes in three call capacities: the DA-1DS for a single tenant, the DA-2DS for two, and the DA-4DS for four. Each call button is a direct select button, so a visitor presses the button for the unit they want rather than dialing a code. For buildings larger than four units you need a different Aiphone platform entirely, since four calls is the top of this range.

Yes. The DA Series entrance station is weather resistant with an aluminum cover and is rated for 14 to 140 degrees F (-10 to 60 degrees C), so an exterior entry in most North American climates is within range. It surface mounts directly to the wall, so there is no back box cutout to cut into masonry or a storefront surround.

Door release is powered by the entrance station itself, so no separate relay module is required for a basic strike release. The output is 9.5 to 20V AC into a strike of 70 ohms or higher resistance, and Aiphone specifies the EL-12S electric strike for it. If your existing strike draws more current than that (lower resistance) or runs on DC, it is not a direct match on this output.

Two conductor. Aiphone calls for 2-conductor with overall shield (their #822202) or 2-conductor low capacitance, PE insulated, solid, non-shielded (their #871802). It is a non-polarized two wire run, not Cat5 or coax, so if you are pulling new cable for a retrofit, plan for one of those two types.

Cumulative run from the power supply to the entrance station is 360 feet on 22 AWG or 1,020 feet on 18 AWG. That is cumulative, not per leg, so on a multi-unit job add up the total copper in the path before you commit to a closet location. Long runs across a large building generally mean stepping up to 18 AWG.

Audio only. The DA-1DS, DA-2DS and DA-4DS are call and audio entrance stations with direct select buttons and a backlit directory. If your property manager wants to see who is at the door, this series will not do it and you need a video door station platform instead.

No. Communication is hands-free, so a visitor speaks normally at the station without pressing and holding a talk key. The directory is backlit, which is what matters at a night-time entry when someone is trying to find the right name.

It is built for commercial use and sits in the multi-tenant intercom family, which is why it scales from one to four call buttons. Practically, it suits a small commercial entry, a fourplex, or a professional office suite with up to four occupants. Larger apartment stacks outgrow it at the fifth unit.
