1) What does the Aiphone GT-1D tenant station do in a multi-tenant intercom system?
The GT-1D is the in-apartment audio station for an Aiphone GT Series entry system. A tenant picks up the handset to talk to whoever is at the entrance panel, and presses the door release to let them in. It also has a call button to reach a guard or concierge station when the building runs one. Audio only, no video.
2) What wire do I need to run to an Aiphone GT-1D station?
Two-conductor, solid, non-shielded cable with PE insulation. Aiphone specifies their own #871802 for the run. Don't substitute shielded or stranded cable, and don't pull it in the same conduit as line voltage.
3) Can the GT-1D trigger something besides the door strike, like a gate or an elevator relay?
Yes. Besides the door release for the calling entrance, there is a secondary option button that closes a normally open dry contact on the back of the unit. That contact is what you land on an external device, so a second gate, a light, or another relay-driven load can be fired from the tenant's station.
4) Should I spec the audio handset GT-1D or a video tenant station for my building?
Pick the handset audio station when tenants only need to hear and buzz in a visitor, and when you want the privacy of a handset rather than an open speaker in the living space. If residents need to see who is at the door before releasing it, the GT-1D is the wrong station for those units and you want a video tenant station on the same GT system instead. Audio and video stations can coexist on a GT install, so you can put video in some units and audio in others.
5) Will the GT-1D work on an older Aiphone system I already have in the building?
It is a GT Series station and belongs on a GT Series system, wired back to the GT entrance panel and system hardware. It is not a drop-in for a different Aiphone platform. If you are adding units or replacing a failed handset station in a building already running GT, this is the matching audio station to standardize on across the fleet.
6) Is the Aiphone GT-1D rated for commercial buildings or just residential apartments?
