MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. The SBX-IDVF is designed to mount to a 1 or 2-gangbox, ring, or to any flat surface.
2. Pass cable through the knockout hole on back or conduitknockout on bottom.
3. Secure mounting box to wall.
4. Connect wires to door station (Refer to system’sinstallation instructions).
5. Connect supplied speed nuts to mounting tabs (4 total).
6. Attach door station to mounting box using the screws that are supplied with the intercom station.

1) Can I surface mount an Aiphone flush station on a wall where there is no back box?
That is exactly what the SBX-IDVF is for. It mounts to a 1-gang or 2-gang box, to a ring, or directly to any flat surface, so a flush-designed IS or IX stainless station can go on a concrete or block wall with no recessed prep. Cable comes in through the knockout on the back or the conduit knockout on the bottom.
2) What comes in the box, and do I need extra screws to attach the door station?
You get the SBX-IDVF enclosure plus four M4 speed nuts for the mounting tabs. The screws that hold the door station to the box are the ones packed with the intercom station itself, so they are not duplicated here. Wall anchors or machine screws for fastening the box to the wall or gang box are also not included.
3) Will the SBX-IDVF work with an IX-SSA station on an existing single-gang box?
Yes. IX-SSA is one of the listed compatible stations, and the box is designed to mount to a 1-gang box as well as a 2-gang, a ring, or a flat wall, so an existing single-gang rough-in is fine.
4) What is the difference between the MS Sedco 1010 and 1015 mounting boxes?
They differ by the device series they are prepped for. The MS Sedco 1010 two-piece mounting box is listed for the 59J and 614-SSN series activation switches; the MS Sedco 1015 is listed for the 59, 59V, 1078, 216, 830 and 614 series. Confirm the exact switch model on the opening before ordering, since the two are not interchangeable across those lists. Neither one is a substitute for the Aiphone SBX-IDVF, which is built for IS and IX Series stainless steel flush mount door stations.
5) For an exterior wall where the station is exposed to weather, is the Aiphone SBX-IDVF or the SDC 480-SSB the better enclosure?
The SDC 480-SSB is the one described as weatherized, and it also carries a battery clip inside its 5-1/2 by 5-1/2 by 2-1/8 inch shell, which suits a self-contained GT Series device. The Aiphone SBX-IDVF is an 18-gauge polished stainless steel enclosure with a knockout on the back and a conduit knockout on the bottom, intended to surface mount an IS or IX Series stainless flush door station to a 1-gang or 2-gang box, ring, or flat wall. If the device on the opening is an Aiphone IS or IX station, the SBX-IDVF is the enclosure that matches it; the SDC box will not accept that faceplate.
6) What is the install sequence for mounting an Aiphone IX door station with this box?
Run the cable through the rear knockout or the bottom conduit knockout, fasten the box to the wall or gang box, make up the wiring to the door station per that system's instructions, fit the four supplied M4 speed nuts to the mounting tabs, then attach the station with the screws that shipped with it. Doing the speed nuts before the station goes on is the step people skip.
