Aiphone SBX-DVF - Stainless Steel Surface Mount Box

The SBX-DVF is an 18-gauge stainless steel enclosure that lets a JF-DVF or JK-DVF video door station mount on a flat wall surface instead of being recessed into it. Use it where you can't cut into the wall: masonry, brick, tile, or an existing finished lobby wall you don't want to open up. There is space inside for the cabling, and the bottom is open for drainage.

Two versions are sold. The plain SBX-DVF is for the JF/JP/JO-DVF door stations. If your station has the built-in HID ProxPoint Plus or HID iClass reader, you need the SBX-DVF-P, ordered as the card reader door station option. The reader adds height and width to the station, so the boxes are not interchangeable: the SBX-DVF is 10-7/16 in. H x 5-1/2 in. W x 2-1/4 in. D, and the SBX-DVF-P is 11-11/16 in. H x 5-15/16 in. W x 1-13/16 in. D.

Yes. The enclosure is weather resistant and vandal resistant, with an opening at the bottom so any water that gets in drains out rather than sitting on the cabling. That is the reason to use it at a gate, a loading dock, or an unprotected entry rather than trying to weatherproof a flush-mount station.

No. The SBX-DVF is cut for Aiphone JF/JP/JO-DVF video door stations, not for switches or push plates. For an SDC GT Series device outdoors, the SDC 480-SSB weatherized surface box measures 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 2-1/8 inches and includes a battery clip. For MS Sedco activation switches, the two-piece 1010 box fits the 59J and 614-SSN Series, and the 1015 fits the 59, 59V, 1078, 216, 830 and 614 Series. Match the box to the device family, not to the size.

Lay out for 10-7/16 in. tall by 5-1/2 in. wide on the wall, with the box standing 2-1/4 in. off the face. The card reader version (SBX-DVF-P) is taller and wider at 11-11/16 in. H x 5-15/16 in. W but projects less, 1-13/16 in. That projection matters at a door jamb or in a tight vestibule where the box could catch a swinging leaf, so check the swing path before you pick the mounting height.

Screws for the station come in the box: 8x32 fasteners with a T-15 Torx head, on both the SBX-DVF and the SBX-DVF-P. The Torx head is what makes it tamper resistant, so bring a T-15 driver to the job. What is not included is the anchoring into your wall, which depends on what you are fastening to, so plan on the appropriate masonry or drywall anchors for the surface.

Flush mounting looks cleaner and is the way to go in new construction or a stud wall you can open. Reach for the SBX-DVF when the wall won't allow it: solid masonry, a column, glass surround framing, or a retrofit where cutting a back box is not practical. The box carries the cable slack inside, so a surface run stays concealed. The tradeoff is the box standing 2-1/4 in. proud of the wall (1-13/16 in. on the card reader version).

No, it needs a flat wall surface. The enclosure seats flush against the plane it mounts to, and any gap behind it on a curve defeats the weather resistance and leaves a pry point. For a bollard, gate post, or column, mount to a flat plate or a flat-faced pedestal first, then fasten the box to that.

It is a commercial-duty part: 18-gauge stainless steel, vandal resistant, with tamper-resistant T-15 Torx fasteners rather than a slotted or Phillips head someone can back out with a pocket knife. That combination is what property managers standardize on for multi-family and mixed-use entries where the station is reachable from the sidewalk.
