Aiphone TDW-1/A – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Aiphone TDW terminal box do I order for a TD-12H/B master station?
Order the TDW-12/A. The TDW desktop terminal boxes are matched one-to-one to the master they serve: TDW-1/A for the TD-1H/B, TDW-3/A for the TD-3H/B, TDW-6/A for the TD-6H/B, TDW-12/A for the TD-12H/B, and TDW-24/A for the TD-24H/B. Pick the box that carries the same call capacity number as the master, or the terminations will not line up.
2) Do I need a TDW if I am wall mounting the TD-H master instead of setting it on a desk?
No. The TDW is built specifically for tabletop and desk-mounted master station configurations, where the wiring has to be brought off the desk surface. A wall-mounted TD-H master terminates at the station location and does not need a separate desktop terminal box.
3) Will a TDW desktop terminal box work with an Aiphone master outside the TD-H Series?
No. Each TDW is built for a specific TD-H Series master (TD-1H/B, TD-3H/B, TD-6H/B, TD-12H/B, TD-24H/B). It is a TD-H Series accessory and is not a general purpose junction box for other Aiphone intercom lines.
4) What does the Aiphone TDW terminal box actually do in an intercom install?
It is a remote terminal box that takes the field wiring for a TD-H Series master mounted on a desk or table and lands it away from the station itself. Instead of running a bundle of station cable up onto the desktop, you terminate at the TDW and run a single tidy connection to the master. Purely wire management, no audio or switching function of its own.
5) Can I add a TDW to a TD-H intercom system that is already installed?
Yes. The TDW is a companion accessory within the TD-H line, intended for system expansion or retrofit as well as new work. If you are relocating an existing TD-H master to a reception or security desk, adding the matching TDW gives you a place to land the existing station wiring and clean up the exposed cable at the desktop.
6) Is the Aiphone TDW terminal box rated for commercial use or is it a residential accessory?
Commercial. Aiphone classes the TDW as a commercial-grade accessory, and the typical installs are reception and security desks, office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, multi-tenant commercial properties, and government buildings.
