Alarm Controls RP-50 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the RP-50 plate accept a Medeco cylinder?
No. The RP-50 is punched with a single 3/4 inch "D" hole for an Ace lock. Medeco requires the double "D" cutout, which is the RP-50M. Ordering the wrong one means the cylinder will not seat in the plate.
2) What is the difference between the Alarm Controls RP-50 remote plate and the ACSI 1340-1 indicator plate?
Both are single gang wall mount indicator plates, but they signal differently. The RP-50 carries both a red and a green 1/4 inch LED on one plate, so a single station can show two states at once, and it also has a 3/4 inch "D" hole on the back plate for an Ace lock key switch plus an N/C tamper switch. The ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang wall mount indicator with one LED, supplied as either red or green. If the opening needs a keyed shunt or release at the same plate as the indication, the RP-50 is the one that carries the lock cutout; if all the point needs is one status lamp, the 1340-1 covers it.
3) What voltage do the LEDs on the RP-50 remote station plate run on?
The red and green LEDs work on either 12 or 24 VDC, drawing 8mA at 12 VDC and 12mA at 24 VDC. That low draw means you can usually run them off the same supply feeding the lock or controller without sizing up the power supply. Leads are 6 inch red and black pigtails.
4) I only need a single status light, not a key switch. Is there a simpler alternative to the RP-50?
If you just want an indicator and no keyed control, the ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang wall mount indicator with one LED, available in red or green. The RP-50 makes sense when you need both colors of status and a cylinder hole for a key switch in the same plate.
5) I only need one status light at the door, not two - is there a simpler plate than the RP-50?
Yes. The ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang wall mount indicator carrying one LED, ordered in red or green, which suits a point that only reports a single condition such as door secure or door released. The RP-50 is the heavier specification: two 1/4 inch LEDs in red and green, a 3/4 inch "D" hole for an Ace lock key switch, a normally closed tamper switch and 6 inch red and black leads. Both mount to a standard single gang box, so the back box work is the same either way.
6) Will an ACSI 1340-1 work as a drop-in replacement for an existing RP-50 station?
Treat it as a rework, not a swap. The RP-50 provides red and green indication plus a 3/4 inch "D" hole for an Ace lock key switch and a normally closed tamper switch on the same plate, and its LEDs run on 12 or 24 VDC. The ACSI 1340-1 is a single gang wall mount indicator with one LED in red or green. If the existing station is wired for two LED legs, a key switch and a tamper loop, those conductors have nowhere to land on a single lamp plate, so the substitution only makes sense where the station is being reduced to plain indication.
7) What finish is the RP-50 remote plate and can I get it to match other plates in the building?
As supplied it is satin stainless steel, which matches most commercial switch and reader plates. Alarm Controls offers the RP series plates in other finishes as well, so a lobby with brass or anodized hardware can be matched.
