Metallics TS510G – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole do I drill for the Metallics TS510G 5/8 inch wedge anchor?
Drill 5/8 inch. A wedge anchor uses a hole the same nominal diameter as the anchor body, so the TS510G, a 5/8 x 10 inch wedge anchor, goes into a 5/8 inch carbide-bit hole drilled deeper than the embedment you need. Clean the dust out before setting, then drive the anchor and torque the nut to expand the clip.
2) Is the Metallics TS510G anchor suitable for outdoor or damp locations?
Yes. The TS510G is hot dip galvanized, which is the coating normally specified for exterior slabs, loading docks, rooftop curbs and parking structures where a plain zinc anchor would rust. For permanently submerged or chloride heavy settings, stainless is the better call.
3) What base material can a 5/8 x 10 wedge anchor be used in?
Solid concrete only. Wedge anchors like the TS510G expand against the wall of a drilled hole and need the compressive strength of poured concrete to hold. They are not for hollow block, brick, grout filled CMU or drywall. In hollow masonry use a sleeve anchor or a toggle rated for the load instead.
4) How many anchors come in a pack of Metallics TS510G?
Ten anchors per pack. Each 5/8 x 10 inch hot dip galvanized wedge anchor ships with its nut and washer, so one pack sets ten points. For a large equipment base or a run of bollards, order by the number of holes on the drawing, not by the box.
5) Why would I pick a 10 inch long wedge anchor instead of a shorter one?
Length buys you two things: embedment depth and stand-off. The TS510G at 10 inches overall lets you clamp a thick base plate, shim stack, sill plate or structural shoe and still get deep embedment into the slab below. If you are only fastening a thin bracket flat to concrete, a shorter 5/8 anchor does the same job with less drilling.
6) Is the Metallics TS510G anchor removable or reusable?
No. A wedge anchor is a permanent mechanical anchor, the clip expands into the concrete and will not retract. The nut comes off, but the body stays. If you need the fixture to come off and go back on repeatedly, use a female anchor such as a drop-in or an internally threaded insert, and bolt into it.
7) What thread and nut does the TS510G 5/8 wedge anchor use?
The threaded end is 5/8 inch diameter, and the anchor is supplied with a matching hex nut and washer. Any 5/8 inch coarse thread nut will run on it, so if a nut is lost on site it is a standard replacement rather than a proprietary part.
