Metallics TS112SS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What hole size do I drill for a 1 inch wedge anchor like the TS112SS?
A wedge anchor is drilled line-to-line with its bolt diameter, so a 1 inch anchor takes a 1 inch carbide bit in concrete, and the hole has to be drilled deeper than the embedment to take drill dust and the nose of the anchor.
2) How many anchors come in a box of Metallics TS112SS?
Five anchors per box. For a four-bolt equipment base or a run of strut supports, count your holes first, one box covers five holes only.
3) Is a stainless wedge anchor worth it over zinc plated for outdoor or wet locations?
That's the reason this one exists. The TS112SS is stainless, so it holds up in exterior slabs, wash-down areas, parking structures and coastal work where a zinc plated carbon steel wedge anchor will rust at the collar and stain the concrete. Indoors and dry, the plated version does the same mechanical job.
4) Can I use the Metallics TS112SS in block or brick instead of concrete?
No. Wedge anchors expand against the wall of the hole and need solid, poured concrete to develop their hold. In hollow block, brick or mortar joints the cone will spall the material out, so use a sleeve anchor or a screen tube with adhesive there instead.
5) What is the Metallics TS112SS normally used for on electrical work?
It's an electrical-trade anchor, used for floor-mounting switchgear and transformer pads, anchoring equipment skids, strut and trapeze supports, and anything bolted to a concrete slab where a 1 inch bolt is called out on the drawing.
