Metallics TS106SS – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size hole do I drill for a 1 inch wedge anchor?
Wedge anchors are drilled with a carbide bit matching the anchor diameter, so the 1 inch TS106SS goes into a 1 inch hole. The hole has to be drilled deeper than the embedment so the anchor can be driven flush or set below the surface, and it should be blown clean before setting or the clip will not expand properly.
2) Can I use the TS106SS in hollow block or brick?
No. A wedge anchor needs solid base material to expand against, so the TS106SS is for poured concrete only. In hollow CMU or brick you want a sleeve anchor, a screw anchor rated for block, or an epoxy and screen tube system instead. Running a 1 inch wedge anchor into a hollow cell will spall the face shell and hold almost nothing.
3) Why choose a stainless wedge anchor instead of a zinc plated one?
Stainless is what you use where the anchor sees water, washdown, or salt air: exterior pads, rooftop equipment curbs, parking structures, pool and kitchen areas, coastal sites. The TS106SS is the stainless version, so the body and the expansion clip both resist corrosion. For dry interior slab work, a plated carbon steel wedge anchor of the same 1 x 6 size does the same mechanical job at lower cost.
4) Does the TS106SS wedge anchor come with a nut and washer?
Wedge anchors ship as a complete assembly: threaded stud, expansion clip, nut and washer already on the bolt. You set the anchor through the fixture hole, then torque the nut, which draws the cone into the clip and locks it in the concrete. No separate hardware to buy, but you do need a 1 inch carbide bit and a torque wrench to set it properly.
5) How many anchors come in a box of Metallics TS106SS?
Five anchors per box. For a four-bolt equipment base that is one box with a spare; if you are setting multiple bases or a long run of strut or rooftop supports, count your holes and order boxes in multiples of five so you are not short mid-pour-day.
