Metallics JTS4234 Anchors 1/2 X 2-3/4 Wedge Ancr St-zn (Jar 50)

The JTS4234 is a 1/2 inch diameter wedge anchor, so it goes into a 1/2 inch hole drilled with a carbide hammer-drill bit. Wedge anchors are sized so the anchor diameter equals the hole diameter, and the hole should be drilled deeper than the embedment so dust and cuttings have somewhere to go. Overall length is 2-3/4 inches.

Wedge anchors like the 1/2 x 2-3/4 JTS4234 are made for solid poured concrete. In hollow block the expansion clip has nothing solid to grip against and can blow through the cell wall, so for block or brick you want a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for masonry instead. If you are fastening into a grouted-solid cell or a filled bond beam, the wedge anchor works.

On the JTS4234 the 2-3/4 inches is total anchor length, and a 1/2 inch wedge anchor needs most of that buried in the slab to develop its hold. That leaves roughly enough stick-out for a thin bracket, strut channel, or an equipment foot plus nut and washer. If you are shimming, grouting, or going through a thick base plate, step up to a longer 1/2 inch wedge anchor so you keep full embedment.

It is steel with a zinc plating, which is a dry-interior finish. Good for mounting conduit strut, panel boards, transformers, and equipment pads inside a building. For exterior slabs, wash-down areas, parking structures, or anywhere it will see standing water or chlorides, specify a stainless or hot-dip galvanized wedge anchor instead.

A 1/2 x 2-3/4 wedge anchor is fine overhead in solid concrete as long as you hold full embedment and torque the nut to set the clip. The limit is cracked-concrete and seismic-rated overhead applications, where many specs call for an anchor with a published ICC evaluation for that condition. If the drawing calls out a cracked-concrete or seismic-qualified anchor, check that requirement against the anchor you buy rather than substituting on diameter alone.

Drill the 1/2 inch hole, blow or vacuum it clean, drive the anchor so the nut and washer sit flush to the fixture, then tighten the nut. Tightening pulls the cone up into the expansion clip and wedges it against the hole wall. Two things cause failures: dust left in the hole, and under-tightening so the clip never expands. A wedge anchor is also one-time, it cannot be backed out and reused once set.

Fifty 1/2 x 2-3/4 wedge anchors per jar, nut and washer assembled on each. The jar pack is sized for a crew doing repetitive layout work, hanging strut runs or setting equipment feet, rather than a one-off fastening.
