1) Will a 1/2 x 3-3/4 wedge anchor work in my concrete slab, or do I need something else?
Wedge anchors are for solid, cured concrete only. They work by expanding a clip against the wall of a drilled hole, so hollow block, brick, mortar joints and drywall will not hold them; those need sleeve anchors, toggles or screw anchors instead. At 3-3/4 inches overall length the 1/2 inch Metallics anchor needs enough slab depth to take the embedment plus your fixture thickness, so thin topping slabs are a poor candidate.
2) What size hole do I drill for a 1/2 inch wedge anchor?
Wedge anchors are drilled at the same nominal size as the anchor, so a 1/2 inch anchor goes into a 1/2 inch carbide hammer-drill hole. Drill the hole deeper than the embedment, blow it clean, then drive the anchor until the nut and washer are seated and torque it so the clip expands.
