A 1/2 inch wedge anchor takes a 1/2 inch carbide hammer-drill bit; the bit diameter matches the anchor diameter on wedge anchors. Drill deeper than your embedment so dust has somewhere to go, and with a 4-1/4 inch anchor you need enough slab depth for the embedment plus the thickness of whatever you're fastening.

Stainless is the reason to pick this one. The JTS4414SSD is a stainless steel wedge anchor, so it suits exterior slabs, wash-down areas, pool decks, and coastal work where a zinc-plated carbon steel anchor would rust and stain the concrete. For dry interior anchoring, plated carbon steel is the cheaper route.

Wedge anchors like this 1/2 x 4-1/4 are for solid, poured concrete. They expand against the wall of the hole, so hollow block, mortar joints, and brick won't give them anything to grip. In hollow masonry use a sleeve-type or toggle anchor instead.

The extra length is there for thick fixtures. A wedge anchor needs its embedment in the concrete, and anything the anchor passes through, a strut channel, a thick baseplate, a sill plate, grout, eats into the length.
