Metallics JTS4334SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are these Metallics 1/2 inch wedge anchors stainless steel for outdoor or wet use?
Yes, the JTS4334SS is the stainless steel version of the 1/2 x 3-3/4 wedge anchor, which is why people reach for it on exterior pads, rooftop equipment, pool and wash-down areas, and coastal work where a zinc-plated carbon steel anchor would rust out.
2) Can I use a 1/2 x 3-3/4 wedge anchor in block or brick instead of concrete?
Wedge anchors are for solid, poured concrete only. The expansion clip needs continuous solid material to grip, so hollow block, brick, mortar joints, and grout-filled CMU are the wrong base material for the JTS4334SS. Use a sleeve anchor or a screen tube with adhesive in those.
3) How many anchors come in a jar of Metallics JTS4334SS?
Each jar holds 25 of the 1/2 x 3-3/4 stainless wedge anchors, and they ship in that jar pack rather than loose or bulk boxed. Nut and washer are part of the assembly on a wedge anchor, so you are not ordering those separately.
4) Is the Metallics JTS4334SS the right anchor for mounting conduit strut and electrical equipment to a concrete wall?
That is exactly where it lands. It is carried as electrical fastening stock, and a 1/2 inch stainless wedge anchor is the common choice for strut channel, large conduit racks, transformer and panel mounting, and equipment feet on concrete. For light single-conduit straps a 1/2 inch anchor is heavier than needed; a 1/4 or 3/8 anchor usually covers that.
5) Can stainless wedge anchors be removed and reused once set?
No. Once the nut is torqued and the expansion clip has set against the hole wall, a wedge anchor is permanent. You can back the nut off and remove the fixture, but the anchor body stays in the concrete, so plan to cut or grind it flush rather than pull it. Order enough in the 25-count jar to allow for setting errors.
6) Should I mix stainless anchors with galvanized or plated hardware?
Keep the fastening train the same metal where you can. The JTS4334SS is stainless, and pairing stainless with zinc-plated or galvanized plates and clamps in a wet or coastal location sets up galvanic action that eats the plated part first. If you specified stainless anchors for corrosion reasons, use stainless washers, clamps and strut too.
