Wedge anchors are for solid, poured concrete. Hollow block, brick, and mortar joints will not develop the expansion grip a wedge anchor needs, so use a sleeve anchor or a screen-tube and adhesive system in those bases instead.

Hot dip galvanizing is the corrosion coating you pick for exterior, damp, or unconditioned concrete, which is why the JTS4512G is specified HDG rather than plain zinc. For permanently wet or chemically aggressive conditions, stainless is the usual step up.

A 1/2 inch wedge anchor uses a 1/2 inch carbide bit, drilling the hole deeper than the intended embedment so the anchor has room to seat. With a 5-1/2 inch anchor the usable embedment is whatever is left after your fixture thickness, so subtract the thickness of what you are bolting down from the 5-1/2 inches to see how much goes into the concrete.

A wedge anchor sets by expanding a clip against the hole wall when the nut is torqued, so it is a permanent mechanical anchor. The nut and washer come off and the fixture can be swapped, but the anchor body stays in the concrete. If you need the whole fastener out later, use a threaded insert or a drop-in anchor arrangement instead.

Wedge anchors of this type ship as a complete assembly with the nut and washer on the stud, which is how they are installed: drive through the fixture, then torque the nut to expand the clip. No separate hardware purchase is needed for the anchor itself, but you will want a 1/2 inch carbide bit and a hammer drill on hand.
