1) What size hole do I drill for a 1/2 inch wedge anchor like the Metallics TS4512D?
Wedge anchors are drilled at the same nominal diameter as the anchor, so a 1/2 inch anchor takes a 1/2 inch carbide hammer-drill bit. Drill deeper than your embedment so cuttings have somewhere to go, blow the hole clean, then drive the anchor through the fixture until the threaded end shows the nut and washer.
2) Can I use the Metallics TS4512D wedge anchor in block or brick?
Wedge anchors are for solid concrete. Hollow block and the mortar joints in brick do not give the clip the solid wall it needs to expand against, so the anchor can spin or pull. For block, use a sleeve anchor or a screen tube and adhesive instead.
3) Is a zinc plated wedge anchor OK outdoors or in a wet area?
The TS4512D is zinc plated steel, which is a dry indoor plating. Zinc gives some corrosion protection, but for exterior slabs, parking decks, pool rooms, or anywhere with regular wetting or washdown, spec a hot dip galvanized or 304/316 stainless wedge anchor instead.
4) Can I remove a wedge anchor after it is set, or reuse it?
No. Once the TS4512D is driven and the nut is torqued, the expansion clip is wedged permanently into the hole. You can back the nut off and remove the fixture, but the anchor body stays in the concrete. If you need something removable, use a drop-in anchor with a machine bolt, or a concrete screw.
5) Does the Metallics TS4512D come with the nut and washer?
Wedge anchors ship as a complete assembly, with the expansion clip on the body and the hex nut and washer already threaded on the top. Nothing extra is needed to set them beyond a 1/2 inch carbide bit, a hammer drill, and a wrench for final torque.
