Metallics TS4085G – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a wedge anchor work in hollow block or brick, or do I need concrete?
Wedge anchors like the TS4085G are for solid concrete only. They work by a clip expanding against the wall of a drilled hole, so hollow CMU, brick, or grout-filled voids can blow out instead of holding. For block walls use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for masonry, and for hollow core use a toggle.
2) Is an 8-1/2 inch anchor length overkill for bolting a strut channel or panel to concrete?
Probably, yes. At 8-1/2 inches the TS4085G is a long 1/2 inch wedge anchor meant for thick fixtures, stacked shims, sleepers, or through a topping slab where you need a lot of thread standing proud plus deep embedment. For bolting strut, conduit supports, or a thin base plate flat to a slab, a shorter 1/2 inch wedge anchor is the right call, since excess length just sits unembedded and eats drilling depth.
3) Can I use the galvanized TS4085G wedge anchor outdoors or in a damp area?
The galvanized coating on the TS4085G gives it more corrosion resistance than a plain zinc plated anchor, which is why galvanized wedge anchors are the usual pick for exterior slabs, parking structures, loading docks, and wet mechanical rooms. For direct saltwater exposure or submerged service, stainless is the material to specify instead.
4) Do I need a washer and nut separately for these wedge anchors?
No. A wedge anchor such as the TS4085G is a single assembly, the threaded stud, expansion clip, nut, and washer come together, and you set it by torquing the nut after the anchor is driven to depth. What you do need on hand is a hammer drill with a 1/2 inch carbide bit, a blowout bulb or vacuum to clear the hole, and a torque wrench.
5) How many anchors come in a box of Metallics TS4085G?
Boxed 25 per box. If you are anchoring equipment bases at four bolts per base, one box covers six bases with a spare, which is worth working out before you order for a multi-unit rooftop or mechanical job.
