Metallics M50626 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need a special tool to install a 1/4 inch drop-in anchor?
Yes, a setting tool sized for the 1/4 inch anchor. The anchor drops into a drilled hole flush with the surface, then the setting punch is driven down to expand the plug at the bottom. The tool is a separate purchase, not included with the jar of 100.
2) Is the Metallics M50626 anchor steel or stainless?
It is carbon steel (the C-St in the description), not stainless. Carbon steel drop-ins are for dry interior concrete. For exterior, wet, or corrosive locations you should specify a stainless anchor rather than this one.
3) Why would I pick a drop-in anchor over a wedge anchor for hanging conduit?
A drop-in sets flush with the concrete surface and stays in place when the bolt comes out, so you can remove and re-hang fixtures, strut or conduit hangers later without touching the anchor. A wedge anchor leaves a stud sticking out permanently and is not removable. For overhead electrical work where threaded rod may be swapped or rehung, the 1/4 inch Smart-Di drop-in is the more serviceable choice.
