Metallics M6335 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a mini drop-in anchor and when do I use it instead of a standard drop-in?
A mini drop-in is a shorter-bodied version of the same internally threaded concrete anchor. It sets flush in a drilled hole with a setting tool that expands the anchor, then the bolt threads in. The shorter body is what you want in thinner concrete or where you cannot drill deep, such as the underside of a pan deck or a topping slab. In full-depth structural concrete carrying heavier loads, the standard-length 1/4 inch drop-in gives you more embedment.
2) Can I use a drop-in anchor like this in hollow block or drywall?
No. The M6335 is a concrete anchor and needs solid base material to expand against. In hollow CMU it will not develop reliable load in the voids, and in drywall or plaster it has nothing to grip at all. Use a sleeve or toggle-type anchor for hollow walls and a screw anchor rated for block where you are fixing to CMU.
3) How many 1/4 inch Metallics drop-in anchors come in a jar?
Metallics M6335 ships as a jar of 100 anchors. That is the pack a contractor hanging strut, threaded rod, or cable tray off a concrete deck will go through quickly, so order by the jar count rather than the piece.
4) Are these drop-in anchors corrosion protected for indoor electrical work?
The M6335 is steel with a zinc plating, which covers dry interior work: concrete decks, ceilings, and walls inside a conditioned building. Zinc plating is not a substitute for stainless or hot-dip galvanized hardware in standing water, exterior exposure, or chemically aggressive areas.
5) Is the Metallics M6335 removable or reusable?
The anchor body stays permanently in the concrete once it is set, but because it is internally threaded, the bolt can be backed out and the fixture removed or re-hung without disturbing the anchor. That is the main reason electrical and mechanical trades pick drop-ins over wedge anchors for ceiling-mounted rod and strut.
