Metallics M6322 Anchors 3/8 Mini Drop-In Ancr St-zn (Jar 50)

A mini drop-in is a shorter shell for the same bolt size. The M6322 is a 3/8 mini, so it seats in a shallower hole than a standard 3/8 drop-in, which is what you want in thin slab, in post-tension decks where embedment has to stay tight, or overhead where you are drilling from a lift. If your spec calls out a full-length 3/8 drop-in embedment, the mini is not a swap for it.

Yes, and it is not included. A drop-in anchor expands by driving its internal plug down with a matched setting punch, so a 3/8 drop-in needs the 3/8 setting tool. Hammering the shell itself or trying to expand it by tightening the bolt will not set it properly. Order the setting tool with the jar if you do not already have one on the truck.

The M6322 is steel with a zinc plating, which is an indoor or dry-location finish. Zinc plating handles normal interior concrete, mechanical rooms and finished garages, but it is not a stainless or hot-dip anchor and it will corrode in standing water, exterior exposure, pool rooms or coastal air. For those, specify a stainless drop-in instead.

A 3/8 drop-in takes 3/8-16 threaded rod, which is the common size for trapeze supports, unistrut, cable tray, conduit racks, pipe hangers and light fixture drops off a concrete deck. It is a female anchor, so the rod or bolt threads in flush and can be removed and re-installed later without pulling the anchor, which is why it is preferred over a wedge anchor for overhead hanging work.

For overhead, the drop-in wins on serviceability. The M6322 sets flush in the hole and leaves nothing sticking out until you thread the rod in, so you can drill and set the whole deck first and hang later. A wedge anchor has a stud permanently protruding, which is fine for baseplates bolted to a floor but awkward overhead and impossible to remove cleanly. Use the wedge where you need a through-fixture bolt in a slab; use the drop-in where you are hanging rod from above.

Fifty per jar. Metallics ships the 3/8 mini drop-in in a jar rather than a bag, which is the pack most electricians and mechanical contractors keep on the van for hanging threaded rod and strut. Fifty is roughly one trapeze layout run, so figure your rod drops before you decide how many jars to order.
