Metallics JTS103 Anchors 1/4 X 3-1/4 Wedge Ancr St-zn (Jar 100)

A 1/4 inch wedge anchor is set in a 1/4 inch hole drilled with a carbide hammer-drill bit, since wedge anchors use a hole the same nominal diameter as the anchor body. The JTS103 is the 1/4 x 3-1/4 inch size, so drill deeper than your intended embedment to leave room for dust at the bottom of the hole.

The 3-1/4 inch overall length of the JTS103 has to cover embedment into the concrete plus the thickness of whatever you are fastening plus the nut and washer. Wedge anchors in 1/4 inch generally need a couple of inches in the slab to develop their hold, so plan on roughly an inch or so of usable stack-up for strut channel, a conduit clamp, a bracket foot, or a baseplate. For thicker material, step up to a longer anchor rather than shortening the embedment.

The JTS103 is steel with a zinc plating, which is an indoor or dry-location finish. Zinc plate gives light corrosion resistance for interior concrete work, parking-garage ceilings that stay dry, mechanical rooms, and the like. For exterior slabs, pool decks, coastal sites, or anywhere exposed to moisture or chlorides, use a stainless or hot-dip galvanized wedge anchor instead.

Wedge anchors are for solid poured concrete only. They work by a clip expanding against the wall of a drilled hole, so they need the uniform strength of concrete. Hollow block, brick, mortar joints, and grouted CMU will crumble or spin the anchor; use a sleeve anchor, a screw anchor for masonry, or a toggle in those materials. The JTS103 is the 1/4 x 3-1/4 inch size in that family.

They set once and are not removable. A concrete screw is faster, needs no setting torque, and can be backed out, which suits light clamps, box mounting, and anything you may relocate. For overhead electrical support carrying weight, the wedge anchor is the heavier-duty option.

Metallics catalogs the JTS103 as an electrical fastener, and the 1/4 x 3-1/4 inch size is the common one for anchoring strut, conduit clamps, box brackets, and small enclosure feet to concrete. Nothing about it is electrical-only though, so the same jar serves general MRO and contractor anchoring in concrete.
