Metallics JTS6414 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use a 3/4 inch wedge anchor in block, brick, or hollow-core plank?
No. The JTS6414 wedge anchor is a solid concrete fastener, it works by expanding a clip against the wall of a drilled hole and needs the base material to resist that. Hollow block, brick, and hollow-core plank will crush or spall. Use a sleeve anchor, screw anchor, or a toggle-type fastener rated for hollow masonry instead.
2) What thickness of material can a 3/4 x 4-1/4 wedge anchor clamp?
Usable grip is the 4-1/4 inch overall length minus the embedment you drill into the concrete. Set the anchor to the depth your fixture requires, then the remaining stickout past the slab is what the base plate, strut channel, or angle plus the nut and washer have to fit in. For a thick base plate or a shim stack, step up to a longer 3/4 inch anchor rather than shorting the embedment.
3) How many anchors come in a jar of Metallics JTS6414?
Twenty 3/4 x 4-1/4 wedge anchors per jar, and the jar is the pack the item ships as.
4) Is the Metallics JTS6414 anchor corrosion protected, and can it go outdoors?
It is steel with a zinc plating. Zinc plating handles dry interior and protected locations, equipment pads, strut and rack bases inside a building. For direct weather exposure, standing water, or coastal and chemical environments, specify a stainless or hot dip galvanized wedge anchor instead.
5) Do Metallics JTS6414 wedge anchors come with nuts and washers?
Yes. A wedge anchor is supplied as an assembly with the expansion clip, nut, and washer already on the stud, so the 20 anchors in the jar are ready to drive and torque with no separate hardware to order. You do supply the 3/4 inch carbide drill bit and a wrench.
6) Is this the right anchor for mounting transformers, strut, and panel racks to a concrete floor?
That is the normal use for a 3/4 inch wedge anchor. It is an electrical department fastener, and at 3/4 inch diameter it is sized for the heavier end of that work, floor mounted transformers, equipment skids, strut bases and rack feet into a concrete slab. For light conduit straps and small device boxes a 1/4 or 3/8 inch anchor is the usual call.
7) What is the Metallics part number for the 3/4 x 4-1/4 zinc wedge anchor?
Order it as Metallics JTS6414. That number is the 3/4 inch by 4-1/4 inch zinc plated steel wedge anchor in the 20 piece jar.
