Metallics J2530F Anchors 1/4 X 3 Fh Slv Ancr & St-zn (Jar 100)

Sleeve anchors are drilled at the same nominal diameter as the anchor, so the J2530F takes a 1/4 inch carbide bit in concrete, block or brick. Drill deeper than the embedment you need so dust has somewhere to go, then drive the anchor through the fixture and tighten the flat head screw to expand the sleeve. At 3 inches overall length, subtract the thickness of what you are fastening to get your embedment.

The J2530F uses a flat countersunk head, so it seats flush only if the fixture hole is countersunk to match. Through unbored steel strut, brackets or plate, the head will stand slightly proud. If you need a bearing surface against flat material, an acorn or hex head sleeve anchor is the better pick; the flat head version is for conduit straps, plates and trim where you want nothing protruding.

The J2530F is zinc plated steel, which is a coating for dry interior and protected locations. Zinc plating gives limited corrosion resistance and is not a substitute for stainless or hot dip galvanized hardware in wet, exterior or corrosive environments. For exposed outdoor conduit runs or anything washed down, specify a stainless sleeve anchor instead.

Sleeve anchors like the 1/4 x 3 J2530F expand along the length of the sleeve, which spreads the load and makes them the usual choice in hollow block, brick and softer masonry where a wedge anchor can blow out the web. Wedge anchors grip at the tip and are the heavier anchor for solid poured concrete in shear. For electrical work (strut, panel backs, conduit straps, device boxes) the sleeve anchor is the common spec because one anchor handles block and concrete both.

One hundred anchors per jar, packed in a jar rather than a box, which keeps them from spilling in a van drawer and makes the count easy to eyeball on a job. Each anchor comes with its screw and expansion sleeve assembled, so nothing else is needed to set one.

The screw in a sleeve anchor backs out, so the fixture can be removed and re-fastened, which is why these get used on serviceable items like panel mounts and strut. The expanded sleeve itself stays in the masonry; it will not pull back out of a 1/4 inch hole once set. Plan to either re-use the same hole with a new screw or drill a fresh one.
