Metallics CSH5F – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What drill bit size do I need for a 3/16 inch concrete screw anchor?
A 3/16 inch diameter concrete screw like the CSH5F is installed in a 5/32 inch carbide hammer-drill hole, drilled deeper than the embedment so the dust has somewhere to go. The hole is cut undersize on purpose, the anchor cuts its own thread in the masonry as it drives.
2) Does the Metallics CSH5F have a hex head or a Phillips flat head?
Hex washer head. You drive it with a 1/4 inch hex driver or a nut setter, not a bit, so it seats against the surface of the fixture and spreads the bearing load. If your detail calls for a flush or countersunk finish, a hex washer head is the wrong profile and you want a flat-head version instead.
3) What is the blue coating on the Metallics CSH5F anchor?
It is a blue zinc coated steel screw anchor. The blue finish is the standard identifier on this style of concrete screw and gives it mild corrosion resistance for interior and protected work. For sustained exterior exposure or wet locations, a stainless or heavier-coated anchor is the safer specification.
4) Can I use the Metallics CSH5F in block and brick, or only poured concrete?
It is a masonry screw anchor, so it threads into poured concrete, solid block, and brick, provided the base material is sound and you can get full embedment past the fixture. It is not a drywall or hollow-wall fastener, there is nothing to grip in a void, so hollow block cells and gypsum need a toggle or sleeve anchor instead.
5) How many anchors come in a jar of the Metallics CSH5F?
One hundred anchors per jar, supplied in jar packaging. For electrical rough-in where you are shooting strut, clamps, and box brackets to block or concrete all day, the jar count is the usual working quantity rather than a bulk box.
6) Is the Metallics CSH5F removable and reusable?
It backs out with a driver, which is the practical advantage of a screw anchor over a drop-in or wedge anchor, you can pull a temporary bracket without chasing out the hole. Reusing the same hole is not recommended though, the threads are cut in the masonry and re-driving into a stripped hole gives you much less holding value.
