Metallics TS34512G – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole do I drill for a 3/4 inch wedge anchor like the TS34512G?
Wedge anchors drill to the same nominal size as the anchor body, so a 3/4 inch anchor takes a 3/4 inch carbide hammer-drill bit. Drill the hole deeper than the intended embedment so cuttings have somewhere to go, clean it out, then drive the anchor through the fixture until the threads and clip seat. At 5-1/2 inches overall length, part of that length is consumed by the thickness of what you are fastening plus the nut and washer, so the remainder is your embedment.
2) Will a 3/4 inch wedge anchor work in block or brick, or only poured concrete?
Wedge anchors are a solid-concrete anchor. They need the hole walls to stay intact so the clip can expand against them, which does not happen reliably in hollow block or mortar joints. For hollow CMU, use a sleeve anchor or a screen-tube epoxy anchor instead. In solid poured concrete the TS34512G at 3/4 x 5-1/2 is a standard heavy fastening for equipment bases, racks, strut, and column supports.
3) Can I use the galvanized TS34512G wedge anchor outdoors?
The galvanized coating on the TS34512G is the reason to pick it over a plain zinc-plated anchor. It is the usual choice for exterior concrete, damp interiors, and utility work where plated steel would rust. For submerged, coastal, or chemically aggressive settings, stainless is the normal step up.
4) Do the Metallics wedge anchors come with nuts and washers?
Wedge anchors are supplied as a one-piece assembly: threaded stud, expansion clip, and a nut and washer already run onto the threaded end. You drive the whole unit into the hole and tighten the nut to set it. No separate hardware is needed beyond the correct carbide bit.
5) Can a wedge anchor be removed or reused once it is set?
No. Once the clip expands, the TS34512G is permanent. You can back the nut off and drive the stud below the surface, or cut it flush and patch, but the anchor body stays in the concrete and cannot be reused. If you need a removable fastening, use a female anchor such as a drop-in anchor with a machine bolt.
6) Is the TS34512G anchor sold individually or only by the box?
It comes as a box of 20 anchors. For a job needing a handful of 3/4 inch anchors, you are still buying the full box, so plan quantities in multiples of 20.
