Metallics TS65120SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What size hole do I drill for the Metallics TS65120SS wedge anchor?
Drill 3/4 inch, the same as the anchor diameter. Wedge anchors are sized by bolt diameter, so a 3/4 x 5-1/2 anchor goes into a 3/4 inch carbide-bit hole in solid concrete, drilled deeper than the embedment you need so dust can settle at the bottom. Clean the hole, drive the anchor through the fixture, then tighten the nut to expand the clip.
2) Can I use the Metallics TS65120SS stainless wedge anchor outdoors or in a wet area?
Yes. The TS65120SS is a stainless steel wedge anchor, so it suits exterior concrete, wash-down areas, pool decks, and coastal work where a plain carbon steel anchor would rust and stain the slab. Keep stainless hardware with stainless anchors to avoid galvanic problems at the fixture.
3) Will a wedge anchor work in block or brick, or do I need something else?
Wedge anchors like the TS65120SS are for solid, poured concrete only. In hollow block, brick, or mortar joints the expansion clip has nothing solid to bite and the anchor will spin or pull. Use a sleeve anchor or a screen tube with adhesive in masonry instead.
4) How thick a fixture will a 3/4 x 5-1/2 wedge anchor hold down?
The 5-1/2 inch overall length has to cover your embedment into the concrete plus the thickness of what you are fastening plus the nut and washer. For a 3/4 inch anchor that typically leaves a couple of inches of usable grip after embedment, so it works for base plates, strut racks, and equipment feet. Thicker standoffs or shims need a longer anchor in the same 3/4 inch diameter.
5) How many anchors come in a box of Metallics TS65120SS?
Twenty anchors per box, supplied as a boxed pack. Each anchor ships with its nut and washer as a complete assembly, so one box covers 20 anchor points.
6) Is the TS65120SS anchor removable once it is set?
Not really. A set wedge anchor stays in the concrete. You can back off the nut and lift the fixture, then cut or drive the stud flush with the slab, but the expanded clip will not come back out of the hole. If you need a removable fixing, use a female threaded drop-in or an anchor with a machine screw into a sleeve.
