1) What size hole do I drill for a 3/8 inch wedge anchor?
A 3/8 inch wedge anchor like the TS3312 is set in a 3/8 inch carbide hammer-drill hole; wedge anchors are matched one-to-one with their nominal diameter. Drill deeper than the anchor will sit so dust clears the bottom, blow the hole out, then drive the anchor through the fixture and tighten the nut to expand the clip.
2) Can I use a wedge anchor in block or brick, or is it concrete only?
Wedge anchors are poured-concrete fasteners. The TS3312 expands a steel clip against the hole wall, which needs solid, uncracked concrete to work. In hollow block, brick, or mortar joints the clip has nothing consistent to bear on, so use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for masonry instead.
3) Is the zinc plating on the TS3312 okay for outdoor or wet locations?
The TS3312 is zinc plated carbon steel, which is a dry interior finish. For exterior slabs, parking structures, wash-down areas, or anywhere chlorides are present, step up to a stainless wedge anchor or a hot dip galvanized one.
4) Do wedge anchors come out if I need to remove the fixture later?
Not cleanly. Once a TS3312 is set, the expansion clip is permanently wedged in the hole. You can back off the nut and pull the fixture, but the anchor body stays. Standard practice is to cut or grind the stud flush, or drive it below the surface and patch. If you need a removable connection, use a female threaded insert instead.
