Metallics LCS3840SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Do I need an expansion sleeve or anchor shield to install the LCS3840SS?
No sleeve or shield. This is a screw-type concrete anchor: you drill the hole, then drive the anchor directly with a socket on the hex head. The threads cut into the concrete and hold. That also means it can be backed out and the fixture removed, unlike a wedge or sleeve anchor.
2) Why choose a stainless steel concrete screw instead of the plated carbon steel version?
Stainless is the choice for exterior, wet, or corrosive locations: rooftop equipment curbs, parking structures, pool and wash-down areas, coastal sites, and anywhere the fastener head stays exposed to weather. Indoors and dry, plated carbon steel does the same mechanical job. The LCS3840SS is the stainless 3/8 x 4 inch version.
3) What thickness of material can I fasten with a 3/8 x 4 inch concrete screw?
Total length is 4 inches, and that length is split between embedment into the concrete and the thickness of whatever you are clamping. Subtract your fixture thickness from 4 inches to see what embedment is left, and size against the embedment your load requires. Thicker standoffs, strut channel, or base plates eat into the available embedment quickly.
4) What electrical work are these 3/8 inch Metallics anchors typically used for?
Heavier overhead and wall-mounted electrical loads anchored into concrete or block: trapeze hangers and strut for conduit runs, cable tray supports, panelboard and transformer mounting, and equipment bases. At 3/8 inch large diameter they are a step up from the 1/4 and 5/16 screws used for single-strap and small-box work.
5) Can I drive the LCS3840SS with an impact driver, or do I need a wrench?
The hex head takes a socket, so an impact wrench or impact driver with a socket adapter is the normal way to set them. Match the drill bit to the anchor's specified diameter and drill the hole deeper than the planned embedment so cuttings have somewhere to go.
