Metallics MWDPW1121M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What exactly is the Metallics MWDPW1121M wall anchor kit, and what comes in the jar?
MWDPW1121M is a Metallics walldog-style hollow wall anchor in the 1-1/2 inch length, with a white pan head and a Phillips drive, in zinc-plated steel. It is packaged as a jar of 1,000 pieces, so it is a bulk fastener for crews doing repeat hollow-wall mounting rather than a one-off blister pack.
2) Do I need to drill a pilot hole or use a separate anchor with these walldog screws?
No separate plastic or toggle anchor is needed. Walldog-type fasteners like the MWDPW1121M are self-drilling, high-thread anchors that drive straight into drywall with a Phillips driver, so the anchor and the screw are one piece. Nothing else ships in the jar of 1,000.
3) Is a pan head or a flat head better for mounting brackets with these drywall anchors?
The MWDPW1121M has a pan head, which sits on top of the surface and gives a broad bearing face. That is what you want when you are clamping a bracket, strap, or plate flat against drywall. If you need the fastener to sit flush or countersunk into the material, a pan head is the wrong choice and you want a flat or bugle head version instead.
4) How many pieces are in a jar of Metallics MWDPW1121M, and is it sold any other way?
One jar holds 1,000 pieces, and the 1-1/2 inch white pan head Phillips walldog is offered in that single jar configuration under part number MWDPW1121M. There is no smaller count or alternate finish under this part number, so if you want a different length or a different head style you are ordering a different Metallics number.
5) Will the white head on these 1-1/2 inch anchors blend into painted drywall?
The head is finished white, which is why electricians and property maintenance crews use them on white or light painted drywall and on white device plates, raceway, and low-voltage brackets. The underlying fastener is zinc-plated steel; only the head carries the white finish.
6) Are these Metallics anchors meant for electrical work or general construction?
Metallics catalogs the MWDPW1121M on the electrical side of the line, and the 1-1/2 inch white walldog is a standard pick for hanging low-voltage boxes, raceway, cable straps, and device brackets on hollow drywall. Nothing about the fastener restricts it to electrical use, though. General contractors and maintenance crews use the same anchor for signage, trim plates, and light fixture brackets.
