1) Can I use a 5/8 inch wedge anchor in block or brick instead of concrete?
No. Wedge anchors are for solid, poured concrete only. In hollow block, brick or grout-filled CMU the expansion clip has nothing solid to bite into and the anchor will pull. Use a sleeve anchor or a screw anchor rated for masonry in those bases. The JTS5412SSD at 5/8 x 4-1/2 inches also needs enough concrete depth and edge distance to develop its embedment, so it is not a thin-slab anchor.
2) Are these Metallics wedge anchors stainless steel, and can they go outdoors?
Stainless steel, which is why they get specified for exterior pads, rooftop equipment curbs, pool decks, parking structures and wash-down areas where a plain zinc-plated carbon steel anchor would rust and stain the concrete. For dry interior work, a zinc-plated wedge anchor of the same 5/8 x 4-1/2 size does the same mechanical job at lower cost.
3) How many anchors come in a jar of Metallics JTS5412SSD?
25 anchors per jar, packed in a jar rather than a box. Nut and washer come assembled on each wedge anchor, so there is nothing separate to order to set them; you supply the 5/8 inch carbide bit, hammer drill and a wrench.
4) Are 5/8 inch stainless wedge anchors suitable for anchoring electrical equipment like transformer pads and strut bases?
That is the typical use.
