The housing is the threaded shell and cam assembly that mounts in the lock case; it does not lock anything on its own.
2) What cylinder length is the Arrow 16CR-27X006 mortise housing?
It is a 1-1/4 inch housing, the standard length for a mortise lock in a 1-3/4 inch door with normal trim. If you are running thick decorative escutcheons or a thicker door, you will need a longer housing instead, since a short cylinder leaves the cam short of the lock case.
3) I am converting a Schlage L mortise lock to interchangeable core keying. What do I need?
Two pieces. The Arrow 16CR-27X006 housing goes in the lock case in place of the existing conventional mortise cylinder, and it carries the 006 Schlage L cam so it drives that lock case. Then you add the SFIC core, 6-pin or 7-pin, keyed to your system. The housing is sold without the core so it can be keyed to whatever master system the building already runs.
