1) How many contact blocks can I mount behind the E22KB53 key selector switch?
With the supplied 3-way mounting adapter it takes a maximum of 2 contact blocks, giving you 4 circuits. If you need more, an optional 5-way adapter raises that to 5 contact blocks and 10 circuits. Contact blocks are ordered separately from the operator.
2) Can I use this key selector switch on a washdown or outdoor enclosure?
The E22KB53 operator is rated NEMA 3, 3R, 4, 4X, 12 and 13, so it is suitable for rain, hosedown, corrosive washdown (4X) and dusty or oily industrial locations, provided the enclosure it mounts in carries the same rating.
3) Can the key be removed in both positions on the E22KB53?
The key comes out in both the right and left positions, but only from a maintained position. It is a two-position switch with a 45 degree throw, so both positions are maintained and the operator can be locked out either way, which is what you want for a lockable start/stop or hand/off selector.
4) What do I need to order with the E22KB53 to get a working switch?
The E22KB53 is the operator only, supplied with a 3-way mounting adapter. You add the contact blocks for the circuits you need, up to 2 blocks on the supplied adapter, or up to 5 blocks if you fit the optional 5-way adapter. Legend plates are separate as well if the panel needs marking.
5) What is the cam code on the E22KB53 and why does it matter for wiring?
It uses Cam 2. The cam determines which contacts make and break as the key turns through its 45 degree throw, so when you build the switch up with contact blocks you need to work from the Cam 2 chart to confirm the circuit sequence matches your control scheme.
6) Does this selector switch light up?
No. The E22KB53 is non-illuminated, so there is no lamp or LED module behind it and no separate voltage to specify. Position indication has to come from a pilot light mounted elsewhere on the panel.
