B-LINE FD3045V – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will an Eaton FD3045V breaker hold up on a 480V three-phase panel, or do I need a higher interrupting rating?
The FD3045V is rated 65 kAIC at 240 Vac and 35 kAIC at 480 Vac, so it works on a 480 Vac three-phase system as long as the available fault current at that point in the system is at or below 35 kA. Above that you need a higher AIC frame. Voltage rating overall is 600 Vac and 250 Vdc.
2) Is the FD3045V a complete breaker or just a frame I have to add a trip unit to?
It ships as a complete breaker with a fixed thermal, fixed magnetic trip already built in at 45A. There is no interchangeable trip unit to order and no rating plug to select. If you need field-adjustable trip settings, an FD frame with fixed trip is not the right choice.
3) What are the dimensions and weight of an Eaton F-frame FD three-pole breaker for panel layout?
The FD3045V measures 6 in height, 4.13 in width, and 3.38 in length/depth, and weighs 4.5 lb. Use those figures when checking gutter space and cover cutout on a retrofit into an existing enclosure.
4) Can I use the FD3045V on a DC circuit?
Yes, up to 250 Vdc. The same breaker carries a 600 Vac rating for AC work and is rated 50/60 Hz, so it covers both 50 Hz and 60 Hz systems. Note the published interrupting ratings, 65 kAIC and 35 kAIC, are AC values at 240 and 480 Vac.
5) Does the 45A rating need derating in a hot electrical room?
The FD3045V is calibrated at 50 degrees C, so the 45A rating is established at that ambient rather than at 25 C. In a warm mechanical or electrical room that calibration is what keeps it from nuisance tripping at full load.
6) What terminals come on the FD3045V and do I get line side lugs too?
Terminals are load side. Plan your line side connection accordingly, whether that is a panelboard bus stab arrangement or separately ordered line terminals for a standalone enclosure.
